the Magickal diary: what all should be included?
-
i have been thinking about this for a while. does one just put down the results of rituals, meditation, and other activities, or should one include thoughts and realizations that occur throughout the day?
mainly i am referring of the diary a probationer has to keep for one year. -
I believe that Liber E prescribes what a general outline of the journal should be, or is it Liber O? Either way, if you read John St. John in the Equinox, Vol. 1, No. 1, that is supposed to be the ideal way of keeping your diary.

Liber E does.
i've read John St. John and still i'm not sure if one should include small observations and thoughts throughout the day. i thiink in John St. John, he does though.
thanks th3fall3n777, your advice is always appreciated. -
The magickal diary is a tool. The more you put into it, the more you will get out of it. Yes, you should mark down rituals and observations. Part of the observations you should write down are your thoughts and moods. This is a tool for self reflection and communication with ones HGA.

thanks kuniggety,
that was what i was thinking, but i wasnt quite sure.
i'm still stumbling around in the dark a bit while i wait to meet my neophyte. i figured i would go ahead and get started on the Great Work, and i'm not quite sure about a few things and this was one of them.

I find myself tempted to write down things that are more personal. Things that are not directly magical. I think everything is connected. Yet I should keep my focus. So sometimes I mention other things briefly.
I also keep a separate diary of personal things.

93,
Write down your inconsequential thoughts, feelings, iedas, etc. I think you will be surprised when you look back a month or two later (I often am surprised by my tone, the amount Ive changed/learned, the silliness of past ideas and the clearness of past ideas, etc.)

93,
I Actually keep two diaries:one fir use as the magical diary for practices, the second as a magical diary for the philosophies, visions, etc., as they evolve. The only one to be sent to your Superior would be the first, although I think the sharing of the second, seperately, as a useful practice.

I'm experimenting with an electronic diary - an app that runs on your PC. The reason being that I can search on keywords to find patterns in everything from dreams to meditations to emotions etc. There's something about typing on a keyboard that I don't like - perhaps it's just more romantic to write with a pen - I don't know.

93, Yes, that is why I mentioned the usefulness of sending both. I am currently still keeping both. The problem I find ATM is that I record more in the one that I keep for my studies and thoughts than I do my Diary. I keep the Diary for those special visions, strange occurances, as well as to keep track of progress in practices, etc. That's just the way I prefer to do it.
