Today I was looking over The Oath of a Probationer and I was hoping to ask a few questions just to make sure I am in understanding of the Oath?

    Point #2 –

“The aspirant to the A.'.A.'. shall hear the Lection (liber LXI) and this not of his/her office; IF HE/SHE WILL, shall then procure the robe of a Probationer; shall choose with deep forethought and intense solemnity a motto.”

    Followed by Point #3 –

“On reception, he/she shall receive the robe, sign the form provided and repeat the oath as appointed, and receive the First Volume of the Holy Books.”

Point 2 indicates to me to seek out and purchase a robe, but point 3 seems to indicate that a robe would be provided, leading to my first question of, which is the case? Is point 3 for, after becoming a Neophyte?

The original intention was: You get the robe, you hand it over to the person admitting you, and on the occasion of your admission it is presented to you.

In practice, though, these are usually all done on the same occasion.

In the Oath of the Probationer, the first line reads, "I, ______,..." in that very first blank, is your Worldy name supposed to, or the magickal name you have chosen?

Also in the statement, "An ____, Sol in _____ of _____, do hearby resolve....." I'm assuming this is to mark you day of birth, but is there a Liber or another book that could help me figure out how to determine said information, and is said information supposed to be written out, or drawn, so for instance, I would be "An gemini,..." but would I instead draw the symbol for gemini?

'An' refers to Anno which means 'year'...this would be written in Thelemic form. 'Sol in _____ of _____' is asking what degree of what sign - & yes, you'd write the symbol.

The civil name goes in the first blank (carefully printed).

"I'm assuming this is to mark you day of birth, but is there a Liber or another book that could help me figure out how to determine said information"

No, it's the date etc. that you are taking the oath.

"and is said information supposed to be written out, or drawn, so for instance, I would be "An gemini,..." but would I instead draw the symbol for gemini?"

I'll post a copy of Jane Wolfe's Probationer certificate for you to see (even though it's slightly irregular, due to special regulations at the abbey).

It's amazing to see the document in such high resolution, including the wax seals. 😱 Definitely impressive and truly "real," I've only seen the black-and-white templates in Gems from the Equinox before.

What a great photo! Thank you for posting. The detail on the wax seals is stunning.

I've got a lot more pictures of the seals. (More complete ones than these, in fact.) A decent one (black and white) of the V.V.V.V.V seal will be in the new book.

Here are some in color. I think these were all photographed off of Wilfred Smith's Probationer certificate which I had from Helen Parsons Smith for a time.

Iugum, if you can remember the exact words and content of both oaths and compare them, I suspect you will find One main 'line of force' that shines through them...

I am also curious about this, there is software availble online which calculates the thelemic date, but is the form asking for your date of birth and zodiac degree, or is it asking for today's date to be listed in this format?
