I have just been accepted as a Probationer in a certain A.'.A.'. lineage whose prescribed curriculum seems dubious. I have been instructed to read Carlos Casteneda's 'Teachings of Don Juan', as well as to procure a black Tau robe with a removable hood embroidered with an eye in a triangle (a robe I understand, maybe incorrectly, to be fit for 2=9), & lastly, to recite the adoration of my Rising Star from the Treasure House of Images during Resh, rather than the adorations from Liber Legis. Does this sound irregular to anyone else?

Someone has added that book to the curriculum they are issuing. I have no problem with the book itself, I'm only observing that someone has added it - since the book was published decades after Crowley died.

I do know that some parties have altered the robes to their own ideas. What you describe is not the A.'.A.'. Probationer robe.

And what of using the adoration to my rising star for Resh? That doesn't even seem to make sense...

Complicated, tedious answer, so I'm skipping that question.

Well, what Liber Resh says is to make the adoration as taught by your superior ...so technically you could sing The National Anthem during Resh as long as it was you Neophyte who told you to do so. 😆

I know the lineage you speak of and yes, there are some changes that have been made to fit more in line with the experiences of the primary personality heading that particular branch of the A.'.A.'. Some "lineages" have made alterations to the curriculum of the Order and the robes etc. not all of them operate the same way either. It isn't dubious unless you were looking for a "lineage" that follows the traditions of Crowley.. I tend to agree that some elements need to be updated or added. Steven Hawking should be added for example and more works on Quantum theory & Chaos theory would be excellent additions.

True but Crowley did mean something specific though. LOL

I think it is great that the A.'.A.'. is evolving, including recommending new books that might be found to be of great value. Personally I have greatly enjoyed reading what Kenneth Grant has to say on the A.'.A.'. since that really has built a beautiful bridge between my own experiences and Thelemite ideas.

That being said, I have no idea if the rescension of the order you are in is a solid one.

There is nothing stopping you from reading books outside the curriculum.
