College of Thelema questions
-
I have a few questions about the CoT and would totally appreciate any responses I get.
- On the Thelema.org website, it is stated that prior college experience, "preferably with attention to psychology, philosophy, science, mathematics, English and humanities" is required. I'm about to be a junior in college (and so have 2 years of prior experience), and my major is music production, but I have taken 2 psych courses, have an equivalent of College English, took a literature course, and took a humanities course ("Readings in Humanities," which is another course in the English department; I'm not sure if that's what is meant here.)
My GPA is something like 3.4 - First semester I bombed a math class and got a C in a literature course; aside from that, I have all A's and B's.
Is this acceptable, close to acceptable, not even close? (Asking more for the classes taken than the grades). I'm asking for an at-a-glance response I guess, cus that little paragraph is not a transcript obviously, but I don't think I have anything else that is directly mentioned on the website as being preferred.
- On the Thelema.org website - fees are mentioned in connection with the CoT. Can anyone give me an inkling as to the magnitude of these? I don't know whether to expect a $50 Initiation fee, $500 fee for books and class time, or $5,000 for an entire semester, or more; i.e. can anyone ballpark it for me? My interest in the CoT is going to depend a lot on that due to the large amount of debt already on my head for my "regular" college and a car loan I will end up having to take.
I think that's it for now.
My apologies if this has been answered in another thread. -

What is meant is something close to a liberal arts focus with rounded educational experience. It sounds like you have that, and your grades are good. I wouldn't want to evaluate someone's transcripts just from a summary, or on a public forum, but perhaps those general remarks will help? (There is always the issue of whether one can write well, and your posts suggest that you can do that.)
Where is it that you live?

For College of Thelema Course I, tuition is $93 and you have to acquire certain issues of I.T.C. (The latter are now freely available from us in PDF form from thelema.org.) There may be incidental costs, but that's the main one. "Initiation fee" isn't appropriate, because you've asked about College of Thelema and not Temple of Thelema.)

Yes, this is precisely what I was looking for, thank you
I live in New Jersey, about 20 minutes from NYC - traffic permitting (this, of course, means I live an hour or so from the city for all intents and purposes
).

I could totally swing that! (I already downloaded all the issues of ITC that are available from the website, but have yet to do more than skim them).
I also just realized it was specifically 93 dollars; way to go grogginess
Thank you Jim.

Don't you live anywhere near the PATH train? That puts you a few minutes away most of the time.

I actually have another question, now that I think about it: I'm still in college, and I'll be a junior this coming September.
Would I be able to affiliate with the CoT while still being offically enrolled in my "primary" college? I.e. can I do both simultaneously?

Both is fine.

In "Course I" - how many courses are there total? I read that
" 60 class hours must be accumulated in order to complete each Course, and these hours may be acquired through attendance at classes, seminars, and personal instruction."
off the thelema.org site. -
Admittedly I have only gone over the web pages once, but I don't think I saw anything pertaining to my question. The site mentions that the 60 hours required for each course may be completed by attendance of classes, seminars, and/or personal instruction. So, must this personal instruction be done in person, or may it also be done by phone, or by instant messenger, or by skype or some other form of live chat over the web? I am concerned because there don't appear to be any campuses near me....
thanks.
