One of the most interesting new additions to the mystical path is a plethora of tools, toys and generally new fangled inventions. In particular - the skill of remove viewing, applying as it does the scientific method to psychic experimentation. Remote viewing is a term for various techniques for the psychic evaluation of a target, performed blind, and subject to scientific verification after a session.
I found learning remote viewing techniques very helpful, especially when practising to disengage the ego from the work. They are also very demanding and require a student to develop thier resources. As one lady put it - 'after you've worked to be able to hit a target from a blind reference number, that is held on a computer, and encoded in a series of ones and noughts, then the astral is a doddle...
So - what I wanted to ask was... What useful new techniques have you found that aren't part of the traditional corpus of mystery lectures and hermetic unfolding?

- Viral use of sigils and words of power via social media.
- Back in my IRC/(Z)Cluster days some of us used some routing techniques to cast a circle around the better part of the northern hemisphere. I don't recall why we wanted to do that, but it was pretty neat. We also did the same thing for virtual rituals...setting up particular servers we were connecting through for doing directional work, etc.
- I once did the whole "Identify-Objectify-Banish" technique, and for the banishing part I made a texture out of the sigil of the spirit and made that texture into a skin for an Unreal Tournament bot. I played deathmatch with it as the banishing.
- I have experimented a great deal with frequency and tone generators. The Temple of Set actually has some good material on that if you can stand sifting through their material to find it.
- I have used random number generators as ways to train/test clairvoyance, as sort of an update of Crowley's system using the Tarot.
- I have used table-top role-playing games as the basis of ritual work (can lead to too much crazy...abandoned).
I have a strong "mad scientist" streak which leads me to trying to figure out all sorts of things like this.

I did some remote viewing experiments too. I was always terrible at them. Then one day did some reading and tried a new experimental method.
I used an online program that gave you a timed period to remote view, and then showed you 4 images, one of which was the one that had been preselected Before I started a trial run, I promised myself that after the trial I would print out the preselected image and hang it on my wall for a week. That way, I would be remote viewing something more emotionally real.
I ended up getting 6 in a row right (1 in 4,096 chance).
I also did an experiment with remote viewing and coin tosses, as follows:
- Moderator creates a schedule of the exact time all the following events will occur.
- Moderator selects two random images and saves them as "Heads" and "Tails".
- Viewer is instructed to remote view the image that Moderator will show him at an exact time in the near future, and to make a drawing/notes
- Moderator evaluates the drawing/notes and attributes it to either the heads or the tails image (optional additional notes, and ratings)
- Moderator flips a coin and records the results. Moderator then shows Viewer the image associated with the result of the coin toss (NOT necessarily the image the Viewer's drawings resemble), and deletes the other image, so the viewer can't see it.
I only did a few trials, but the results were quite interesting....

Creative.I've found that Crowley's method of clairvoyance training using the Tarot is very helpful in building R-V technique. The method is as follows: either you or a partner holds up a card, facing away from the subject. The subject then tries to guess the card. Pretty simple. Very practical, also, when applied to poker or blackjack.
Although it doesn''s seem to work if money is involved.I also play the lottery sometimes based on astrological positions, i.e.: Jupiter trine one's natal Jupiter with a Moon sextile Pars Fortunae, and other such configurations. I don't do this very often, and then only on an academic basis.
Edit: I see now that you were looking for non-traditional methods. Aside from subjecting parking tickets to Qabalistic analysis, I generally keep to traditional methods, as being simple, tried, and true. But that's just me.

I studdied alot of occult as a youth. I read and practiced British Tradional Witchcraft (true Wicca, as compared to the eccelctic American whitewashing) for a while, branched into Women's Studies, Folklore, mythology, archeaology, anthroplogy-whihc lead me to study Aboriginals and Indeginous Peoples, Animism, Sociology, psychology, and philosophy. All these studdies have made me very well rounded, but didnt help things sink in deep.
Then I learned about the human body, (esp as when understood through the 8 limbs of Yoga). I can honestly say that learning about our anatomy and physiology as well as brain function has done more for my understanding of occult tentets then astrology, the tree of life, animism, or anything else I ever learned.
I will say also that learning physics and geometry really opened doors to me. I espically loved learning aboutthe platonic solids, metradons cube, the Star tetrahedron, and fractuals!
I do believe that the scientists working in these fields are the alchemist, ceremonial magicgians, and path workers of old.......I have oftern wondered what A.Crowley, D.Fortune, A.E. Waite ect would read if they were shopping in modern bookstores, or taking classes in modern universities:)

i was introduced to psipog.org with techniques on telekenisis and telepathy, energy shields, psi balls and the such. they have some good material, even more producing levitation and pirokenisis.

A good friend of mine is giving lectures on "Altered Consciousness Through Sound." I find the subject very interesting, as music is our primary cultural intoxicant, and often taken for granted.
