Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law.
Hi. My name is Robert and I live in Everett, WA, USA. Like several of you, I have been taking the B.O.T.A. correspondence course, and I am a member of a local "O.T.O." (I place that in quotes to forfend fruitless arguments about whether it is the "real" O.T.O.) I've been reading the posts on this forum with great interest. I hope no one cares if I add my 2¢ to threads that are old and have fallen into desuetude.
I have been interested in magic, mysticism, religion, and such all my life (I'm in my 50s now), and acquired a great deal of information but little practical experience. The writings of Crowley made the deepest impact on me, although my favorite passage is still chapter 51 of the Book of Lies.
My main "secular" interest is language and linguistics.
A couple of years ago, I underwent some significant life changes, and decided to devote more of my efforts to my spiritual well-being, though perhaps it's too late. The ancients used to say "Ars longa, vita brevis," or in Chaucer's translation, "The lyf so short, the craft so long to lerne," meaning that the great work was the pursuit of a lifetime. Still, back then, you were lucky if you lived to 45. Nowadays, with any luck, I might have 45 years yet to go.
So what do you think? Can an old man seek enlightenment with profit, or have I missed the boat?
Love is the law, love under will.
