My sister leads a tarot study group. Our homework is to find correspondences between songs we listen to and tarot cards. For example when I think of CCR's *Proud Mary *I think of the tarot card the Wheel, when I think of the Sun card, Katrina and the Waves, *Walking on Sunshine *comes to mind.

I hope that this excersize helps familiarize me with the tarot and the Tree better, it certainly cant confuse the matter more. My sister has allready completed this project in her workings with B.O.T.A., and she isnt going to let me off easy.
In my searching online I came upon this....

    www.wikihow.com/Create-an-iPod-Tarot-Deck

Which seems like a great way to intergrate technology into divination, it does seem time consuming though, trying to come up with a song for each card.
I think it would make a glorious present to her if I gave her an iPOD tarot deck, she has such a collection of decks, I know she would be in heaven if I created this for her.

I would really love to hear any ideas about this, any songs that remind you of tarot, or the Qabalah?
Has any one here done this excersize before? I realize that the genre's of musical taste would influence one's list, ie my sister loves R & R music from the 50-70's, while my classmate listens to country, I also think the deck you use may dictate what song you think of. I use Crowley's Thoth, but she likes the Guilded RW.

I have a beautiful collection of music - play lists especially made to correspond to each of the 10 Sephirot(s), suitable for ritual and meditative work. all credits go to Hermes Camp, a Thelemic group that operated in place where I live, couple of years ago 😄.

I'm uploading it now, so will be posting the links here

there was also collection for the Elements, but unfortunately I couldn't recover it from the old (and bad) CD... if I manage to do it somehow, I'll add it

Wow, Danica this is very cool stuff.
Sorry that I didnt reply back sooner,
I look forward to listening to this and sharing them with my sister. So I am to understand that these files contain music that is specifically written for each?

Music is so amazing, what a gift to be able to produce beauty in such a way.

I have been a little lax in my home work, but these are the songs that I came up with.....

Safety dance by Men without Hats = 0 the Fool (the music video is what come to mind esp)
Tom Sawyer by Rush =1 the Magus
Rhiannon by Fleetwood Mac =2 the High Priestess
Material Girl by Madonna =3 the Empress
Benny and the Jet by Elton John =4 the Emperor
Time Stands Still by Rush =5 the Hierophant
Leather and Lace by Stevie Nicks and Don Henley= 6 the Lovers
Me and Bobby McGee by Janis =7 the Chariot

I have over 8000 songs on itunes (thank you public library) and have focused this exercise on my songs that I am familiar with. I look forward to the meeting so I can see what songs other people came up with. I think it will be more challenging when I get out of the trump. I hope to find some songs that Danny Elfman works well with.
My sister says that Rush resonates very well with many cards.

I am also interested in fairy tales and nursery rythms that correspond. Folklore and mythology in general may also be interesting to explore, esp if you worked with one tradition at a time (ie eastern European, Pacific Island). My one friend has spoke about how each shpere could be attributed to a specific tribe, because the spheres are shards.

"So I am to understand that these files contain music that is specifically written for each? "

nope! those are just compillations of already existing songs (from various authors and styles), but yes - the songs and their sequence are intentionally chosen that way.

all the Aces can be ascribed to Kether, the Two-s to Chokmah etc

and among the songs ' ascribed' to a Sephira I suppose each Element can be discerned... e.g. from that Venusian/Netzah playlist some songs are more airy, some fiery, some watery..

💡 this idea came up just now:
you can set up a 78-days meditative practise, a card for a day, and each day concentrate on just one card (I think it's better if done in sequence, from 1's to 10's, and Aleph to Tau, Fire to Earth); it can start with the morning meditation on the card, followed by consciously willing to receive/get-to-know/remember the coresponding music during that day. musicians, of course, can create it instead 😀
[and this sound like a good idea for an advanced Tarot working group - maybe to do just Trumps and at the end of the task to compare individual results...]

"Material Girl by Madonna =3 the Empress "

7 of Discs I would say, mixed with 7 of Cups

"Leather and Lace by Stevie Nicks and Don Henley= 6 the Lovers"

    I tend to agree
    and would add this www.youtube.com/watch?v=l0ApvHVFIVw&feature=related
( ATU VI as a Path connecting Tipharet and Binah, Beauty and Understanding... )

I came up with this for ATU XIII :
    www.youtube.com/watch?v=_cMPtqYTe-w&feature=related

here's my translation of the lyrics (a poetic one - without change of the words, but leavig the rythm untouched as much as I could)

    *you know well
    every word
    every sign
    how to
    easiest
    quickest
    sweetest
    say
    I’m leaving

    we grow up
    we beware
    accidentally
    we trample
    your mildest lips say
    I’m leaving

    anesthesia....

    the mirror is
    laughing at
    my own eyes
    silver bugs
    stridulate
    I’m leaving

    imagine
    you are me
    imagine
    I am you
    I open my eyes
    and say
    I’m leaving

    anesthesia....
    *

    and this for ATU II
    www.youtube.com/watch?v=fVjRO8yQ0Xg&feature=related

    to be continued...

Yes, wonderful Fool symbolism in the song 😉
