So, maybe I'm alone on this one, but I personally like to use musick 😉 in accompaniment to my magick. So, I thought I'd see what inspires you out there and maybe start by posting a specific song that hits the sweet spot for me. It's called Dulcinea by ISIS (they are into chaos) and this one get's the fire in the spine so active I once felt like i was ready to burst into actual flames of screaming ecstasy, no kidding...

    Check it: www.youtube.com/watch?v=SndlSKniW8Q#t=6m01

There are a few others i dig, but whatya'll got?

Listen here friend, you and I are kindred spirits. I couldn't agree more with what you said and have in fact had the same discussions with my brothers. I don't listen to the radio except on occasion when I need to see (just once) who this "lady gaga" is. Gag me. The way the industry works seems a form of corporate tyranny where they dictate to the mindless masses what kind of music they will like. I've noticed though with the democratization of technology and diy marketing, there are artists out there representing themselves and making a living without living under the thumb of big labels. I hope that as radio and cd sales fragment coupled with the rise of on demand music(pandora or last.fm), people will be introduced to little heard artists. I like an artist named Lustmord. He does some very awesome dark ambient soundscape stuff and discovered via pandora a little know artist named Coph Nia who does thelemic inspired militant dark ambient. Cool stuff.

I'm with you on progressive rock. Love King Crimson of course. My favorite band is a tie between Led Zeppelin (Kashmir really moves me..reminds me of my super happy childhood) and Tool. The lyrics to tools musick touch me deeply and I see a lot of mystical references in their musick that just compounds the experience. Like you said, I only want to listen to music that makes me feel that way so you can guess I don't have a big music collection. Friends try to get me to listen to garbage they dig on MTV, I say, "no thanks" they say, "you're kinda close minded. I rebut, "I'm refined."

    My top 10
    Zeppelin
    Tool
    Mars Volta
    Isis
    King crimson
    Mr Bungle
    Mike Patton anything
    Secret chiefs 3
    Lustmord
    Coph nia

    Cheers!

For me, I am on the fence with music as part of ceremony. I find it hard to not let it be the moon to my tide. When I use it, it is drone and numbing rhythms to keep the sounds of barking dogs at bay.

To be clear, there is a place for it in Ritual. I just prefer it to be created by the people/person in the Ritual at the time or to be prepared in advance as an important part of the ceremony with consideration to the timing and rhythm of the subtler energies. To run tracks back to back, I got distracted.

I don't practice cermonial yet, but have had pretty great experience listening to the music of others. Namely, The Doors and Jimi Hendrix. At first site, when someone reads that I know there is a lot of baggage to go along with it. However, my first experiences with LSD, Music, and mental journeying opened my eyes that there was something else going on behind the scenes that the combination assisted in accelerating my consciousness therof. For me - it doesn't get any better than "The End" with its Oedipal Orgasm. It got me thinking - isn't the story of Oedipus kind of like the concept of YHVH? Father and Mother unite to conceive a Son who then unites with the daughter so that the Son then becomes the Father and the daughter the Mother in an endless cycle. Oedipus doesn't have the daughter concept, but the son does take the place of the Father to couple with the Mother. Sorry to go off subject a bit - but, thats my experience.

One more thing. At the end of the book by Israel Regardie - "Middle Pillar" - there is a section on Music on how the notes correspond to the Tree of Life and Qaballah that was written by Allan Bennet. Everything in the World of Action has a corresonding result in the other Worlds. Thus, I would believe that music would be very valuable if harnessed correctly.

Thank you! I forgot about that. I'm inspired to create some sequences that correspond! I appreciate you posting that. ❗
