Invocation or evocation
-
I was going through older topics and think I noticed that some people were being advised that invocation is safer than evocation. How is this so? From my understanding, evocation is safer because you are calling the spirits outside of you. In invocation, you are calling the spirit in and allowing it to "take over"your conscious mind. There seems to be a far less risk involved in evocation than in invocation.

Because it is pretty much always safe to saturate yourself with pure holiness; much less safe to externalize an imbalanced aspect of your subconsciious when you may not yet have sufficient control over your own mind.
I'd never recommend evocation to someone unless (1) they have pretty substantial control over their own mind - what thoughts they do and don't think - and the ability to witness their own mind; and (2) significant progress has been made in securing one's linkage to the HGA.

Yes, but having externalized them thus, there is the issue of your ability to maintain control over them.
"In invocation, you are calling the spirit in and allowing it to "take over"your conscious mind."
Wrong! You don't invoke a spirit. You only invoke a god. (Or sometimes an archangel - specifically, something native to a higher spiritual level than your own.)
So, in a sense, the issue is as much about what you're communicating with as the method. The issue is primarily that it is far safer to commune with gods than with spirits.
