I think it an error to confuse this astrological symbolism used for Tarot with actual astrological placements. They are used in Tarot as a descriptive language, not necessarily as refer to the same sort of meanings that one would give to astrological placements.

Thanks
As a descriptive language of Tarot, what is it describing?"

It's describing the nature of the Tarot card. - In other words, Tarot, alchemy, Qabalah etc. use astrological language for their own purposes, but their usage isn't necessarily quite the same as what these objectively mean in astrology. (Classic easy example: The Roman god Jupiter is much more like astrological Mars than astrological Jupiter.)

You might want to get the free Tarot book, Liber Theta, that you can download from www.thelema.org/publications

Though not specific to Thelema - in the "Related Links" in this forum there are some links to solunars.net and solunars.org - which may have some info along those lines. I am new to trying to learn Astrology so don't know myself.

Therefore, what the Tarot describes is more of an alchemical or qabalistic process, rather than the qualities at the locus of an actual decan on the astrological chart?"

Yes. The Tarot is simply a pictorial representation of the primary categories of Qabalah. Astrology should be quite strongly distinguished from the various symbol systems that employ it's terms.

In this case, it's even more important a distinction because every sizable, objective study that has ever been done of astrological decanates has produced no results whatsover. That is, the evidence is consistent with the conclusion that there is no real effect of decanates at all.

"What is the Tarot's logic of using the decans and having the 10°overlap?"

That is explained (for the first time anywhere, as far as I know) in my book which I suggested you download for free. The gist of it is that the the rank of the Court Card and the two signs it bridges causes all three Gunas (all three alchemical principles) to be represented in each of the Court Cards. (There is more to it - explored in detail in Liber Theta.)

"Regarding objective astrology, I am trying to understand how current transits affect the natal placements. Is there a recommended source for this for students of Thelema? Thanks"

You should look on www.solunars.net in the Transits section.
