Exorcism
-
Somewhere in this forum it was once said (I believe it was Jim) that the skills necessary to be an exorcist where different from those necessary to banish.
I am quite intrigued since I always thought that exorcism = banish.
It makes me ask, what are the skills necessary for an exorcist?

Banishing is a great part of it.
But one also has to deal with specific entities, often deeply entrenched into the fabric of a place (or at least holding on tightly) - often the dead, who have strong emotional ties to a place. There is commonly a story behind it - sometimes relevant, sometimes not - possibly connected to how they died, and sometimes not. The ability to communicate directly with the dead is a help, but not always necessary.
And, in the case, where the hold is on a person rather than a place, it gets even more complicated than that.
Of standard magical practices, i think the closest set of skills would be those of evocation; but not even that is sufficient. One does need to be quite at home moving in and about, and sensing in and about, the immaterial planes.

Interesting, I did not think that dead people could rang around this side of the universe. I always thought that haunting was caused by low yetsiratic beings.
Is there some practical difference between exorcising a dead person and a yetsiratic being?

Being fit, on all levels is the ideal.
Especially physically fit. This work can be very taxing on ones being, and taking care of ones heart, ones mentality, and ones initial health is very important for success.Exorcism should be thought of like you are untangling a babies hair......you don't want to just rip it the comb through, you need to have patience, persistence and stamina.
Banishing is like getting gum in your hair...you sometimes just have to get out the blade and severe...
