hello jim, you mention on this thread - viewtopic.php?f=2&t=5459 - regarding paoaoan:

This archangel-level being has particular value as a gate through the Abyss, i.e., for the access and translation of Supernal energies to a receptacle below the Abyss. One of the specific ways it is used is in the immediate aftermath of the Second Key, when one has made oneself completely receptive to whatever invoked force is present.

the question has occured to me, if one wanted to invoke energies relating to the sepher of binah, or to the paths of aleph, beth, and daleth (which are all above the abyss), would it also be necessary to do a similar invocation of spirit passive and paoaoan as a preliminary to the specific invocation of the sepher / path?

(for whatever reason i have an intuition that it would be necessary if i wished to do an invocation of binah, but not for - say - an evocation of taphthartharath, the spirit of the path of beth. though i am not sure why, the path of beth seems to be located above the abyss...)

    Necessary? No.

Might it be useful (as one possible approach)? Yes.

The potential "hazards" are primarily based on the fact that you are leaving yourself wide open to whatever comes in. If you've elevated yourself in advance to the right level, then that isn't a problem usually.

The secondary problems are all of the issues addressed in the first two sections of Liber O - mis-evaluating the experience, etc.
