Preliminary Invocation of the Goetia and Bornless Ritual?
-
Hey I'm new to this forum so if I sound like I don't know what the fuck I'm talking about I apologize but I have a question about what is the difference between the preliminary invocation of the goetia and the bornless ritual. I don't think I'm ready to attempt summoning my guardian angel yet but I've been practicing the LRP and LRH for some time now and I've done the preliminary invocation of the goetia afterwards a few times and have definitely felt the energy albeit faintly and I'm just unsure whether or not I should be doing this yet or if I'm getting ahead of myself. Any advice is greatly appreciated

By "Bornless Ritual", I suspect you mean Liber Samekh.
Be sure you have Crowley's version of this ritual, which in fact is Liber Samekh. The corrections that flow with true Creation and the new Aeon are key to the success of this ritual, and the subtle depths of your consciousness and your universe.
The preliminary invocation is just the first page of Samekh. It is an invocation that is used in many rituals, due to the universal need of Knowledge and Conversation with one's Angel during ritual.
Crowley recommends using this after Banishing and Invoking rituals for this reason, especially after the ritual, and before going into the Astral to exercise your concentration, awareness, and powers.
Is this in the ballpark of what you were asking, my good man?

Yeah I am definitely talking about Liber Samekh, its printed in the back of Magick in Theory and Practice and all the barbarous names are written in Egyptian or pseudo Egyptian or whatever it is. I think what I'm trying to ask is, should I not be attempting this yet? or what kind of progress should I have made before attempting this? or is it okay for me to just do the invocation without the visualizations and giving the signs and sigils and everything else that seems to me to distinguish the ritual described in Liber Samekh from the preliminary invocation of the goetia?

They're exactly the same.

I believe it really depends on how you feel about your own progress and how your Angel guides you through it. If you have been actively interested in this, (and if you are, tis a good notion, seeing as how K&C of Samekh has to do with loss/destruction of ego, allowing the Angel's light to pour through thee,) then I would bet doubloons to disks that s/he is guiding you to this exact portion of our sacred science.
No knowledge, have I, on when one is instructed in the AA to perform this ritual. No disrespect at All to Jim, or anyone else in these organizations, but all of them somehow or another are infiltrated by black brothers that somehow pose a threat to the rest of the real students and adepts. A divine notion is this, seeing as how divinity places obstacles in the paths of those who wish to push a certain limit, or attempt to continue the sacred work of our prophet, but I steer clear of these organizations -- and realize how important an asset it is to have Jim, and very few others like him, openly assist students such as we are, in these matters.
Every time I read something about how the "AA or OTO, or even GD, does not recommend one do a specific ritual until one is a Dominus Liminus, or such other grade", there is always a countering argument about the benefits of going ahead with it. New Aeon still crushing Old Aeon ideas that were not even recognized as Old Aeon ideas until that one student-turned-adept, attempted and successfully performed a certain ritual that, if he had a "superior" guide in an organization, would have been banned from performing it.
I am all about boundary dissolution though. I am at constant awareness of many levels of elemental creatures, and their children, mixed breed or same, (including humans,) and the Old Aeon would see that as too "out there", but I have been in active K&C with my Angel since I was a toddler. Went away for awhile from age 4 to 17, but came back strong and never went away, no matter how much I wanted to overdrink/eat/sleep/etc.
My advice would be as follows: Get yourself a spiral notebook, something not too big but can hold a bit of material, and line out all of Liber Samekh. For each section, look up all the definitions of the exact names used in this ritual, along with plain copying down each line and the english explanation. Tis what I did, and I am not in any organization, but I have performed this ritual successfully, in part and whole.
Some recommend a secluded house for this ritual. As long as you've got a spot of woods or a quiet house, you should be fine. Humans have learned a good bit about hushing the noise around them, and modern humans trained with meditation and who can banish energy patterns with rituals will not have much distraction if they plan properly.
Here's to Colorado and Washington. Who would wish to ban any sacraments that Nuit revealed directly to our prophet, and simple seed-bearing plants at that? It's the new mother-nature taking over.

Thank you all for the advice. I have previously begun to write out the ritual fully with instructions etc. I think I will soon be prepared enough, my biggest concern is simply to not profane the invocation itself with too many unprepared recitations. One, part of the ritual that I am still unsure about is making the "appropriate pentagrams, sigils, and signs." I believe the pentagrams and signs are the same as used in the GRP, and the sigils are "those given in the Equinox Vol. I, No. 7, Plate X outside the square." I looked up that issue of the Equinox and I think I know which sigils he's talking about but its still not clear which correspond to which element. There is one shaped like a T, one that is a cross filled in each quarter with the letter and numbers b 4 and 6, one that is a plain cross and another that is obviously the sun. So I think the first is air, the second water, the third earth, and the fourth fire. Is this an important part of the ritual? Did anyone else have trouble with this, and am I supposed to draw the sigil in the air astrally or simply imagine. Thanks again for all of the help.
