Torah / Zohar / Judiac Mysticism Books
-
Mention of the Torah and Zohar in a different thread, got me to wondering:
What do people consider the best published, edition, version of the Torah, etc?For me personally, I am looking for Old Testament suggestions (beyond the Torah)
A must have in my opinion is the original Hebrew,
Preferably on the opposing page to the English
What I have often sought, yet to find :
An edition where "God" and "Lord" is not used regardless of the actually name -

Get the free software e-Sword, and download a series of Bibles, including KJV, the Hebrew OT and Greek NT, and whatever else you want from the list.
The King James Version, with all of its faults, is actually one of the most rigorously consistent translations - a strength and a weakness at the same time. They set a standard that the same Hebrew word would always be translated the same way in all situations. The key, though, is to have a Hebrew copy side by side, and be able to see what Divine Names etc. were in the original.

I find BlueLetterBible.org useful. There you can also find multiple translations, the original Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek, scholarly definitions of all the words, and mp3 files with pronunciations of each word (only the dictionary form of the word, though, no inflected forms). The interface is clumsy and you have to experiment to figure out how to get what you want, but I've found it enormously useful.
