I recently have begun a quest into this man's work and am under the impression that he entertains readers with haunted, gory tales, while sub- or consciously hinting at important concepts and works of proper Magick.

As if the human race has the attention spans of adolescents, wanting to witness bloodshed, and having to be slowly coerced into learning legitimate modus operandi of martial art, hoping to eventually gain the learned emotion of proper morale that keeps them from shedding blood.

I suppose any artist, to the extent that the artist is true to his or her inner light, is "hinting at important concepts and works of proper Magick."

Lovecraft himself, though, would probably not have agreed with you, as he was very skeptical of the occult. At one point, he and that famous debunker of things mystical, Harry Houdini, talked about writing a book debunking spiritualism, astrology, and other superstitions. Sadly, they never embarked on the project.

That would have indeed been an interestingly contrasting piece of work.

I say this because when one studies magick, one begins to understand the concept of Yoga, or "union".

When one tries to push the alternate and reprovenly destructive ways of thought, one unknowingly begins the horrible process of separation, the opposite of Yoga.

I think the man clearly had the real visions. However, he could not deal with it very well.
I think it is very frightening at first- but then you get immunne.

I also feel, that as a writer, he dramatized things, he made them impressive to the reader.

I can personally relate to many of his visions. But on the other hand his reaction to such energies(memories) is over rated. His understanding of some of these principles, is shallow.

I never wish to put the good man down, do'nt get me wrong. He is most helpful to anyone who has these visions, visions that lie deep in the subconscious. So subtle, yet so frightening, they lie within, yet they are without.

I/we have much to thank to the man.
