March 23-25, 2014: Two of Wands
-
Two of Wands
DOMINIONMeditation Pattern: Place Atu XVI, The Tower, and Atu IV, The Emperor, side-by-side, with the 2 of Wands above them.
Traditional Description: Two crossed wands, similar to the Fire Wand of an Apprentice Adeptus. Flames issue from the point of junction. On two small wands above and below, with flames issuing therefrom, are the symbols Mars and Aries for the decanate.
Chokmah of Fire: The energy of Fire in its best and most exalted form. Creative Will. Influence over others, authority, power, dominion.
Mars/Aries: Strength, domination. Boldness, courage, love of freedom, fierceness, fighting spirit, shamelessness, fury, revenge, resolution. Generous, proud, sensitive, ambitious, refined, restless, impatient, turbulent, sagacious withal, yet unforgiving and obstinate.
Chokmah + Mars: Sudden application of phenomenal. Willful, imperial. Strong urge for freedom and independence. Refusal to yield to another’s will. Destruction inaugurates creation.

Day one:
Might, force, military force, combat, opposing viewpoints clashing, me vs you, us vs them, competition, rising to the top, rulership, exerting one's authority, conquest, destroying anything in sight, turf war, archetypal masculine energy, hunter-warrior, atheletecism, homo-eroticism.Day two:
Unleashing one's self, primal masculine energy seeking expression, frustration & aggravation, clashing, breakthrough performance, grit, being stubborn, making room for new leadership to arise, abandoning the status quo, leaving other transformed, empowerment, enabling others, playful abandon, hot seat coaching, new thinking applied to old problemsDay three:
"Don't tell me what to do", "Can't tell me nothin", ruthlessness, self-rigor, selfishness, ruthless compassion, gusto, consulting a master for guidance, champion of the people against the forces that oppress them, insightful straightness about what one has done and who one has been, winning & the desire to win at all costs, being unreasonable, being a loose cannon, high self-honor and discipline, wrathfulness, conflict of interests , being a maverick, living on one's own terms. -
- Applied/directed energy and power.
- Un-specified power of the Ace of Wands becomes initially polarized; in Two of Wands it is Male (Yang), in Three it’s Female; they exist simultaneously, not in time sequence; but the mind analyzes it in sequence: “there is Two, and after it there is Three”.
- Looking at this card together with the two Major Arcana that describe the decanate brings these ideas to my mind:
elemental Fire in its most dynamic form; enormous power; firmness in the sense of discipline; male principle so strongly emphasized that it automatically “attracts” or finds its female counterpart; the instinctual is inflamed/“burnt” in such a manner that it becomes a tool for the conscious Will; “For pure will, unassuaged of purpose, delivered from the lust of result, is every way perfect.”
- Mars + Aries: mindlessness in action, violence, handling own energies in a tyrannical manner, aggression; but if conscious (for the initiated): sovereignty of one’s authority based on Natural Law; transformation of basic drives through spontaneous dedication of those drives to the Great Work; fearlessness; directness.
- Chokmah of Fire: pure Will experienced/expressed as that which creates, initiates, moves; fiery aspect of Logos; insemination, abundant splashing of the Seed.
- Power of Will; a decision that starts further motion in accordance with the Will; focus of attention not intellectually but on a deeper level (Dhyana), which is perceived as natural Dominion.
