FUTILITY
(Previously called, “Unstable Effort.”)
Seven of SwordsMeditation Pattern: Place Atu II, The Priestess, and Atu XVII, The Star, side-by-side, with the 7 of Swords above them.
Traditional Description: Two sets of three swords each, extended from opposite sides of the figure. A seventh sword reaches upward through their center. The points of all the swords just touch each other, the central sword not altogether dividing them. The rose of the previous symbols of this suit twines its stem about the blade of the central sword, its blossom opening fully near the tip thereof, as if the victory were at its disposal. Symbols of Luna‚ and Aquarius, above and below.
Netzach of Air: Calculating, clever, adaptable; or conniving, deceitful, and unreliable. In character, untrustworthy. Flight, departure, avoidance, refusal or failure at confrontation.
Luna/Aquarius: Loss of energy, diffusion, uncertainty, doubt, vacillation, unstable effort. Unreliable, mentally distractible. Incapable of sustained effort. Yielding when victory is within grasp, as if the last reserves of strength were used up. Inclination to lose when on the threshold of winning, through not continuing the effort. Partial success at best. Love of abundance, fascinated by display; given to complaints, affronts, and insolences, and to spy upon others. Inclined to betray confidences, not always intentionally but through inattentiveness or weakness.
Venus + Luna: Passivity, emotional, desire for comfort, moodiness, shyness, easily influenced by others, good intentions but unrealistic assessment. If well-dignified, may add tenderness, emotional expressiveness, affection, grace; but the quality of the suit of Swords

- The many and the masses of the emotional aspect of Ruach: if devoted, it is the Force that carries forth the Creation, if not – the force of chaos (in the destructive sense).
- Refined feelings; love expressed through intellect : lyrics, love letters, odes, hymns, but all have something missing in them, the Inexpressible appears only „between the lines“.
- Platonic love.
- Charm, charisma; conversations with love and about love; free love; Love under Will.
- Daintiness, tenderness, compassion, empathy; love based on friendship and familiar interests.
- Polyamory.
- Ability to love everyone; especially compassion for those in trouble, etc. (marginalized, disenfranchised).
- Cooperation; help; on the negative side: unwilling absorption of others' negative emotional conditions.
- Likes & dislikes through analysis and self-reflection are being put under the headship of Will; this opens the channel for love to become Love.
- Partiality, favoritism (for some groups, values, etc.); this blurrs the sight.
- Honesty with oneself, which is basis for honesty with others.
- Recognizing own TW through own attractions and repulsions.
- Versatility; openness for compromise and cooperation; respect for other person and his/her specific nature; natural feeling of respect for other people as such.
- Social idealism emphasized – intercession for human rights, equality before the law, etc.
- Indecisiveness, pliability, flickeness of aspiration; easily attached to every interesting idea (and new pretty face) that arises; to balance this: non-attachment, more particularly: not identifying oneself with these.

An ineffective and outdated strategy, impracticality, delusionDay two:
unrealistic expectations, setting oneself up for failure, writer's block, unreliable, irrational fears, skewed view of reality, feelings of inferiority, unable to thinking something through, if well dignified "winning the war, then going to battle", being well prepared for the unexpectedDay three:
Shadiness, scheming, unscrupulous tendencies, a shiester, erratic and unstable, fickle, wishy-washy
