RAW vs. Crowley
-
Hello,
I'm rereading RAW's (Robert Anton Wilson) Prometheus Rising and found an interesting principle based on his ideas regarding Tarot court card coorespondences. He correlates Knights to the Earth element, rather than Fire, which is different from what Crowley states in the Book of Thoth.
He looks at Knights as the first circuit "oral" impression and the Princess as the "sexual" impression and it makes a lot of sense. However, it contradicts Crowley's coorespondences of the Knight being assigned to Fire. In other words, he swaps the "Y" and the "H final" in the YHVH attributions that Crowley gives regarding these cards.
His argument is pretty cogent. I wanted to ask the Tarot scholars of the group what they think and what coorespondences they favor. I've always previously read the Knight to represent Fire - as in Knight of Wands to be Fire of Fire...
Thanks for your time!

The most neutral thing I can say is that it isn't the basis on which Tarot was created in the first place.
Whether you find other value in it... well, that's up to you.

I've been reading the Tarot this one way for years - I don't think I'm changing now.
Say something less neutral? I don't mind...
Also, thanks for the response, Jim. Hope you are well.

Tarot was created with the Court Cards aligning with the letters of YHVH. The attributions of those letters to the elements is clear from at least a century before Tarot's creation, as is the attribution of Yod to the father figure of the set.
