    Going past my initial reactions I've come to take this verse as a testing of one's limits. With whatever means one wills - either intoxication, physical exertion, or intellectual exercise, or none of these, or all of these - a total and intense experience to the brink of collapse is a healthy prescription. This pushes the limits of incarnation, a voracious intent on expanding experience, and encapsulating more into our perspective. When our capacities are overwhelmed - something happens and many a mystic have pushed this limit.
