Most appropriate incense correspondence for Star Sapph.
-
Hi all,
I was wondering what the most appropriate incense correspondence for the Star Sapphire ritual would be.
After studying notes, it seems like there is a solar influence and yet also a Binah influence from the NOX aspect.
I came to the conclusion that a solar correspondence such as Frankincense/Olibanum would be appropriate but then I think maybe myyrh or civet for Binah (NOX) and would this change depending upon the formula used NOX/LVX? Also if you guys know any other more obscure practical references that could be used during the ritual e.g ( candle color, oils, altar cloth color, etc.). I had 776 1/2, so if it's easier would it really just correspond to one column? -
I would say Abramelin incense, interpreting it as an invocation of the four elements and then spirit active (Set Triumphant) and spirit passive (Baphomet) sees it doing the same thing Liber Samekh does: invoking the Holy Guardian Angel. Abramelin incense is most appropriate then, and I would say frankincense (a Solar incense) would be a good secondary choice.

Lot of possibilities, I wouldn't narrow the list too much.

From my understanding, though Crowley says that the Star Sapphire is a more perfect version of the hexagram ritual, they actually end up serving different functions. The LHR is good for dealing with planetary energy, while the star sapphire is more of a general invocation of the HGA (like a mini-bornless ritual). You probably already know that, but the consequence of that is that the Star Sapphire can be used in a wide variety of rituals as a general invocation. Therefore, I would use the incense associated with the ritual you're working on, and not try to correspond the incense with the Star Sapphire. I see the Star Sapphire in a similar way that I see the Middle Pillar -- not that the MPR is an invocation of the HGA, but that they are both pure rituals that can easily be included in a broader ritual. You probably wouldn't be too concerned which incense you're using if you're doing a MPR.
Now, if you are just doing the Star Sapphire, then I would just be careful not to pick an incense that is too specific to other associations. I would use an incense that is more catholic, like Abramelin, as has already been suggested.
I think this all applies to other correspondences too. If the Star Sapphire is used as a general invocation before you move on to the specific invocation, I'd match the correspondences to the specific invocation, not to the general invocation. If the Star Sapphire is the sole or primary focus of the ritual, I'd use something more catholic in nature, or according to my own ingenuity.
When in doubt though, I'd go with solar correspondences. I'm sure other things would work too, but I feel that would be a "sure thing" seeing as Tiphareth is where K&C takes place and the Star Sapphire is an invocation of your HGA.
