Thanx for the insight . So was this a "blind" that was written in the Golden Dawn paper on the GPR concerning that the "Rending of the veil" should be used with the active spirit pentagrams, and the "Closing of the veil" should be used with the passive spirit pentagrams?

Portal signs -
Portal signsI am a little confused about the use of the Portal signs in conjunction with the GRP; Is the "Rending of the Veil" used for invoking, and the "Closing of the Veil" used for banishing?, or, is the Rending used with the active elements and the Closing with the passive elements? IIRC, in Regardie's Golden Dawn, the active/passive scheme as applied to the Spirit pentagrams is the one presented, yet that doesn't make sense to me considering how the Portal signs are named...

Liber 963Ok, thanx for the insight. Nonetheless, it is beautifully written, and evocative prose

Liber 963IIRC, in the "Path Workings of Aleister Crowley", 1994 edition with contributions by Cherubim, DuQuette, Hyatt, and Wasserman, they questioned the interpretation of "star" in relation to the instructions of Liber 963, and it was suggested that the "wandering star", (planet), which rules the particular rising sign could alternately be used. Was just wondering what others on the A.A. path think of this...

Liber 96393 all
I have a question about choosing which adoration to committ to memory; is it the adoration of the rising sign, or is it the adoration of the planet that rules the rising sign?

LBRPOk thanx for the clarifications. I find that is interesting that Earth and Uriel are used in the quadrant that would be attributed to Netzach and the Elohim if standing at the intersection; the Venusian component of Netzach is the reason? If so, then should not the remaining directional attributions also follow the planetary schema? ex.-Tipareth/fire, Hod=Air, etc. Sorry if these questions seem rather basic, but I'm trying to teach myself as best I can

LBRP93 All
I have a question about how the GPR relates to the LPR. In the GPR, "AHIH" and "AGLA" are used with the active and passive spirit pentagrams respectively, yet in the LPR, "AHIH" is used in the west with passive water, and "ADNI", (which is used in the GPR with the elementally passive earth), is used in the LPR with active fire. So does that mean that the magician is not standing at the intersection of Samekh and Pe in the GPR? It would seem to me that the magician is more at the intersection when doing the GPR, then when doing the LPR because the GPR uses the Atziluthic God names of the Sephiroth. Also, why if the magician is standing at the intersection of Samekh and Pe in the LPR, is Uriel used instead of Haniel in the Briatic part of the working? So what am I not understanding here?

Star RubyActually like a few others that have posted in this thread, I got confused by the sparse attention that Crowley gave to explaining the NOX signs, combined with certain authors having interpreted them in different ways. This quote in particular set me thinking that the order of the NOX signs might be related to the intent of the original Greek version of the Star Ruby:
"There is an oral tradition, probably deriving originally from the Berkeley OTO, which performs the signs in the order of the four worlds from Fire to Earth, followed by Spirit. This represents the descent of the divine reality through the four worlds into the circle, establishing the manifestation of Spirit"
In any case, thanx for your answer; it makes sense that the order should trace out the grades above the abyss, as Crowley probably originally intended

Star RubyI guess I should have been more specific in my question; by the order in which they are given I meant: does it still go Puella, Puer, Vir, Mulier, Maters Triumphans as it does in Reguli? Or is there another order in which to give them where the descend from Fire to Earth is traced out to strengthen the effect of the BOL version of the Star Ruby? I've read that Crowley altered the original version of the Star Ruby to conform with Reguli, so I was wondering whether the order in which the NOX signs are given was also altered. Btw, great site here!

Star RubyHi
" There is an important formulaic differnce between the two: The original version follows the Macrocosmic (Second Order) elemental attributrions and works them Fire-down-to-Earth."
So does this also have to do with the order in which the NOX signs are given?, or is the same order that is used in Reguli also used in the Book of Lies version of the Star Ruby? Also, about the elemental attributions; how do they differ from the MTP version?

Thelemic Names of Power93 All
Have been wrestling with this for quite some time; Babalon & Therion: Are they titles/functions that the aspirant strives to become or fulfill, or are they considered bonafide names of power? I realize that Babalon and Therion are representative of Nuit and Hadit on a different arc, but something just does not seem right about using those names in the same way as other names that are mentioned in Class A documents. It is almost like the way to Hadit should be to fufill the office of Therion, and the way to Nuit is to fulfill the office of Babalon. Any thoughts?
