I've been practicing evocation recently multiple times a day for the last month or so, with little success. I've been working with random entities who's grimoires state they could help the magician with his/her spirit vision. I've been scrying these sigils and trying to evoke them under many different formats.

But one day, I opened up my journal & found a sigil with no name written on it from almost 3 years ago. I said f@#$@# it and decided to evoke it anyways.

Now, I didn't do any opening rituals. I just sat down and started to scry the sigil and went into a light trance. The moment I started chanting the incantation, I felt my vision zoom into the sigil and the rest of the room faded away. The room around me shifted into a red-hue. I felt a feeling of dread come over me, and INTENSE prickling all over my body. This feeling kept growing fast. Quite frankly, I was terrified. But I stuck with it. This is what I wanted I suppose.

I pulled myself together and proceeded to charge the being with my intention & dismissed it. There was no two-way communication.

I tried to evoke this being years ago when I was first playing with chaos magick. I googled some names and turns out it was a demon named Azazel. Probably explained the feeling of dread.

Unfortunately, I have not been able to repeat these results. No matter how much preparatory immersion I put myself through, I cannot perform an evocation and have the room change color like that. Or have the atmosphere change nearly as intensely as it did this one time. And I didn't even immerse myself in any preparations, I just sat down and did it. Why can't I do this again?

I figure, if I could perceive what I did then certainly I have some ability to perform evocations.
What are some reasons that only one being (Azazel) would come to my temple with such intensity, and never again?
If anything, it certainly sent me chasing that 'high' again, since I spend a ridiculous amount of time with my scrying mirror these days.

Well, while the more practically knowledgable are still silent, I'd guess that it was the "unknownness" of the old sigil that allowed another part of you to open up more to the experience than the other times. Another line of analysis might look at the intimacy you had previously had with that sigil versus that with those taken from a book for experimentation. My hunches want to say the old sigil had a more powerful relationship to possibility within you for some reason that seems blocked with the others. Now, the "why" of that, you'd have to answer for yourself.

    Hi V

    DWTW

My advice, from experience with this particular name (Archetype, angel, whatever) is to work with it, don't get scared of the idea of demons or any such nonsense, I suggest you read the Book of Enoch, Leviticus and the Yezidi and Islamic scriptures regarding Azazel. You might just find a diamond in the rough. 😉
