I've seen two contradictory opinions on whether to cover talismans and magick weapons. I've read authors that say you should always wrap up/cover your talismans and magick weapons when you banish lest they lose their charge of astral energy. I've read other authors who say the opposite that unless your specifically intend to cleanse your implements of any charge they are safe and don't need to be covered. Any opinions or advice?

This line of thought leads me to another question. It seems the Golden Dawn believed that talisman are charged with astral energy which brings forth the effect. I believe in Regardie's Golden Dawn book one of the knowledge lectures states one should not create more than four talismans lest you totally deplete your energy. This line of thought has always been my working model.

Recently though looking at classical astrology it seems this was not the traditional theory. Seems like traditional theory emphasized birthing a talisman into existence using the rules of electional astrology. Say at a moment Venus is well placed and in dignity by sign, term, or face the True Will of the Universe itself in Venusian. (Would you think of it as Taliman = Assiah, Planet or Planets = Briah, while the focused desire is Yetzirah which provides the magical link?) In any case they didn't really think of this as focusing and anchoring astral energy; they also placed no limit of the number of talisman one could create.

Would you classify these are two different types of operations for creating talismans? Or is it just a matter of emphasis?

    Thanks,

Cover, unless you want to give subconsciousness the message that your magick is ineffective.

But you left out another variation, especially in the case of 'weapons' - You use the newly consecrated implement to do the banishing! It is, therefore, not "at effect" of the ritual. It also completes and confirms its authority over the powers you need to banish, fortified by your will.

The above would only apply to etheric energy, not astral energy. But, in general, don't use your energy. Use purely divine energy, brought down through the Worlds to Assiah.
