'Eastern' Methods of Banishing?
-
A long time ago I was informally introduced to a method of banishing the likes of which I cannot now recall.
I want to reexamine this method, but I cannot conjure any information on it at all.
Here is what I know, to the best of my recollection:
It is eastern, and by eastern I mean Asian. I want to say that it was Japanese, but in retrospect, it could have just as easily been Chinese, but definitely one of the two. I am 80% leaning towards Japanese, though.
It consisted of a single character, the meaning of which I do not know, and I want to say that that character consisted of nine strokes (brush strokes).
When I saw it performed, it was done in the air with the right index finger / thumb; he also wrote it at one point and I can vaguely remember what it looks like, but nowhere near enough to use it, obviously.
If anyone has heard of such a symbol or method, please let me know; I am eager to learn more of it.

Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law.
The only Asian method of banishing known to me is a Japanese custom of clapping the hands sharply four times. This, obviously, isn't the one you wanted, but I thought I'd mention it.

Maybe it is symbols from Reiki? Reiki was developed by a Japanese guy.
I recall a few different symbols, but you're only supposed to receive that info when you get an initiation. Having said that, I believe you can find them with a simple search on the net.

Thank you for the responses thus far. I don't think it's Reiki; I've looked into it as per your suggestion, and unless my google-fu is not strong today, I found nothing even resembling what I'm looking for.
I'm almost wondering if it's some form on Ninpo at this point. Possible.
If I find out more I'll keep you posted.

I'm beginning to think it is along the same lines as the Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu's "Nine Cuts" or Buddhism's Nine Seals, Kuji-In/Kuji-Kiri.
As far as describing what i saw written, I fear the implications thereof, lest I give an inaccurate representation and lead anyone astray. Simply put, I can't remember well enough. It was almost 8 years ago, and I only saw it once.

Yes, it sounds just like the Ninpo Kuji Keri which consists of nine cuts in the air, a mix of horizontal and vertical slashes, which is in essence a banishing. It's roots are in Tibetan Buddhism I believe and came to Japan and were adopted by the Shinobi no mono, mountain mystic ninja. I studied Ninpo for several years and in Japan but did not reach a high enough level to be officially taught these. However I know people that do know it and I can get additional information if people are interested.
