I keep seeing Trees of Life in which the traditional paths of Qoph and Shin are removed and there are paths instead connecting Chokmah to Geburah and Binah to Chesed; passing where Da'ath usually is.

Is this a different Qabalistic tradition?

Over the centuries, a variety of different patterns have been used for the Tree of Life.

I've never seen this. Is there a picture on the web you can point me to?

Look up the Porta Lucis by Ausburg, 1516. This shows the paths passing through Daath. The Tree of Life has evolved over the centuries. Who knows what future evolutionary patterns may hold.

You can also see it in the Unicursal Hexagram in A Tree of Life drawn by Crowley in the Neptune Press edition of 777 (1955). These are Secret Paths that expand the possibilities of the Tree. Some even connect the higher Sephiroths directly down to Malkuth.

All I had to do was look in my "Qabalah" images file on my hard drive and I found one:

    <a title="treeoflife2.jpg" href="http://s64.photobucket.com/albums/h184/asraiya/random/?action=view&current=treeoflife2.jpg"><img src="http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h184/asraiya/random/treeoflife2.jpg" border="0" /></a>

It looks kind of Hindu/Indian with the Shiva trident for Kether so my guess is since Daath falls onto the throat chakra it's considered a more solid sephiroth since in order to unite the heart with the mind one must find ways to express wisdom & understanding of the above to the below in order to ground the light of Kether illuminating Malkuth aka the Great Work and also the sacrificial cross or cross examination/communication... Don't know if that makes sense to anyone. I'm just writing what feels right for me momentarily. I just wanted to post this tree so you can see 😄

    93! Here's another one:

    <a title="twee.jpg" href="http://s64.photobucket.com/albums/h184/asraiya/random/?action=view&current=twee.jpg"><img src="http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h184/asraiya/random/twee.jpg" border="0" /></a>

I'm having issues with the website it came from- essene.net It seems particularly weird to me so I'll pass on any interpretation attempts this time...

It has always been my understanding, that when those two paths connect the 'higher' spheres it is the tree of returning.

When they connect the 'lower' spheres to Malkuth, it is the tree of emanation.
