I'm curious whether this is meant to be visualized and then promptly "forgotten" about on purpose, or if it's meant to be in the back of your mind, perhaps to be visualized later. Is it a case of the more, the better? -

If "forgotten on purpose" means to drive it out of your mind, then no. Rather, one puts one's attention elsewhere (on driving). "Back of the mind" also is probably too strong, but it likely is always on the periphery. On times when traffic gets close and more risky, it snaps back into awareness right away.
