Liber Theta Tarot Meditations
-
93 everyone,
Magictortoise and I have partnered up to take on the Tarot meditations in Jim's book Liber Theta: Tarot Symbolism & Divination. We thought it would be a great idea to invite anyone interested in learning the Tarot to participate with us.
If you don't know what Liber Theta is you can get a free copy of it here:
The whole purpose of this project is to make a contribution to both the Thelemic and the Tarot community and to provide a living body of work for all who wish to participate, similar to the Meditation of the Day we have going on here. Jim did an amazing job of revising the original Liber T manuscript so we've decided to take his work for a joy ride and bring as many people as we can
Tomorrow, I'll be posting the instructions for the meditations as well as the first card we'll be working with. You will definitely need to download a copy of Liber Theta to get the most out of this experience so if you don't have a copy get one

Shadonis, thank you for starting this study group! I am looking forward to working with you!
Dar, i'd love your at least jumping in occasionally! Tarot itself is a process - i personally went through the Book of Thoth first time some ten years ago, and last time just recently - there is a big difference in how i perceive the energies the cards represent; the book hasn't changed, neither have images... but i did, my perception did - and thus the way in which i work with the deck... anyway, it would be nice if you hopped in, at least occasionally!

"Ruth - will do.
Tarot used to be a process as you describe, but it hasn't been that for me for a couple of years now. This isn't a problem.
93's."
Thank you, Dar!

if I may suggest: it could be a good idea to start with Major Arcana -but from ATU XXI to ATU 0,
then go through Minor Arc. (Aces to Tens)
and then Court Cards (in order given in the book)is it going to be 'a card per day' adventure ?

Welcome Danica! Its great to see you here!!! (Btw, she rocks as an astrologer- so just that you guys would know! )
I'll leave to Shadonis explanation of the concept - because he created it.
Danica's suggestion is in tune with what Jim recommends in the very book - that's the suggested progression.I can only say that we'll explore all the cards for longer than a day - Shadonis concept is awesome!
This is some of my own musings on the Tarot - the way i see it - its really not for the selfpromotion as i don't need any in that department (any more, of what i already have, given that my work in this area is non-commercial), this is just to give you a heads up where i stand re. Tarot studies and philosophy at the moment:
arology.wordpress.com/2010/07/04/a-conversation-with-lena-ruth-stefanovicCLARIFICATION: the way Jim suggests is Trumps - Minors - Courts, and i agree its important to follow it (as suggested by Shadonis.)

Also, i would like to welcome pixelina and other friends from our facebook Tarot community who are joining our study group here!
Enjoy! -

Enjoy! <3"Hmmm. You never know... someone might remember the Rota method. I used to be linked to a lot of the Tarot sites.
'The Rota' used to be an old website I had. The Querent took a card from each minor suit, did a calculation, and came up with a Major Arcana card that 'answered' your problem. I had a little program that did the calculation for people and provided interpretations. Also - non-profit/non commercial.
It's another way to learn tarot if you don't care for divination but want to establish your magical memory and symbol set."
Wow, awesome!!!! That's the goal i pursue - enhansing my magickal abilities, though in my view it is interwined with Divination, as (etimologically and otherwise )coming from the Divine.
Great!
I did a I Ching (Liber CCXVI) reading on our study group - and its awesome, as promised to Shadonis - will share it here (bit later got something to do for my other work right now!)

Welcome Aegis!!! Its so awesome to have you with us!!!
I'd also like to use this opportunity to thank Jim for sharing his book with us and for letting us explore it here!
If you are reading this , Jim - thank you from the bottom of my heart!

Thanks for the replies everyone!
Our aim is to follow the instructions of the meditations to the letter, as designed by Jim.
We'll be working with a new card every 3 days and will take one day for rest. Basically working on 2 cards per week, starting with the Trumps 0-21, moving onto the Minors and completing with the Court Cards.
I know this may be a bit of an inconvenience to those who wish to take a less "constrictive" approach. To that I say, consider the breakthrough you will have in following instructions and adhering to a structure. I know I could use a breakthrough in that.
I'll have the instructions for the meditations posted within the next 30 mins. I'm at work now so sorry for the delays. In the meanwhile, I encrouage you to consider what you would like to get out of your participation in this
Lastly, let's all thank Jim for providing the resource that makes this whole thing possible.

Sounds fun! I think the "Meditation of the Day" format has been a great success on the forum, and I'm sure it will be equally interesting to go through Liber Theta the same way.
-
Welcome AvshalomBinyamin! Looking forward to studying and working with you!
-
I've been starting work on this a little on my own, but I would much rather work through it systematically in a good group

Hello, found this meditations group via Facebooks TA group and thought it sounded most excellent. I love the Thoth tarot and look forward to work more with it.
Got the book on my desktop and deck + journal ready. (I am an obsessive journaler) -
Thanks for joining us Pixelina!
The first card will be up shortly

Well since Aegis found a photo of my family reunion and shared it.....
( btw that is not me on the far left, with the fancy hat....I am in my birthday suit, waving at the camera)I look forward to this new forum, and participating with you all. I have read Thoth Tarot pretty much based upon instinct, going where I was led sort of thing, reading them for myself, and using them as tools for personal transformation.
So I personally have a lot of room to grow and learn.
Thank you all for facilitating this great endeavor!

You're welcome Veronica!
Btw, the first card is up everyone!
Let's do this!!

Speaking of popcorn,
I just ordered over one hundred cases of TrailsEnd popcorn for my cub scouts pack. Each case has about twenty to thirty bags of AbFab popcorn! And seventy percent of the money goes right back to the scouts.....
and these one hundred cases are going to be in my tiny tiny home, till I get it all sold....Blah blah blah,
I could sell a sand castle to an arab....I live to serve, and help and bring smiles, and and and.....
I really think I am going to need a big box of wine to get me through this fundraiser....
Oh yeaAnd then, My little girl scout gets to sell cookies......
So you ladies can have you popcorn, and your cookies...
This year I am going to have a few drinks,
One of my friends showed me how it would be good for me,
Make me live longer, and healthier and happier...... -
Here is the I Ching reading that i promised long ago, on our group endeavour.
from Liber CCVXI
45 THE ZHUI HEXAGRAM
Water of YoniZHUI: Collection; to the shrine repair
and sacrifice the greatest victories there!Alone, art helpless; call thy right ally;
With him, even small prayers earn heaven's swift reply.
Baffled, yet struggling, thou shalt cease to sigh.
Success excuses boldness; recollect
then to be firm in virtue and correct!
Weep for thy loneliness - but still aim high!the Wilhelm-Baynes translation :
** Hexagram 45 – Ts’ui – Gathering Together [Massing]**THE JUDGMENT
GATHERING TOGETHER. Success.
The king approaches his temple.
It furthers one to see the great man.
This brings success. Perseverance furthers.
To bring great offerings creates good fortune.
It furthers one to undertake something.THE IMAGE
Over the earth, the lake:
The image of GATHERING TOGETHER.
Thus the superior man renews his weapons
In order to meet the unforeseen. This Hexagram is usually connected to big investments, often shared ones, and some higher purpose.
The Judgement contains some of I Ching's most powerful concepts: 'creating success', 'harvest', 'good fortune', 'seeing great people'.The king provides the focal point for the gathering of people, wealth, energy and emotion and such amassement (gathering) is oriented towards a shared goal.
The people are called on here to sacrifice the biggest and best of their livestock.
A lake higher than the earth stands for an irrigation reservoir: a crucial investment in cultivation, which also contains the risk of flooding within itself. This hexagram very often describes group enterprise: the necessity of a defined common goal to gather the people around the king, as well as the i sacrifices required of the group's members.
There is high emotional intensity in the moving line texts: 'a hug, smiles, distress, sighs and tears' ( due to efforts to synchronize feelings and deeds with the higher purpose); but every single line also speaks of being 'without fault' - and that's the only hexagram where this is so.
