I hope I have posted it in the right section... has anyone had any experience with the planetary magical squares of Paracelsus, especially with the one for the Moon? Is it accurate?

    Thanks

Yes, I'm familiar. I'm not sure what your question is. What do you mean by "accurate"?

Well I think they are right. Each row and column should total to the number of the planet. If you mean the actual arrangement of the numbers within the square itself, I'm not sure how to answer that. Maybe Jim can. But as long as each row etc add up to the correct number I don't think it matters. Hope this helps!

Thank you Jason. Yes, that's what I was wondering. I was also wondering whether 9 is the correct number for the Moon. Some people seem to disagree with that, but I don't know whether that's correct

The Moon is numbered 9 because its Sphere on the Tree of Life is the 9th Sphere. It is correct if your Magick is founded upon the Qabalah employing the traditional Kircher Tree of Life.

Your welcome! Yes I agree with Zeph. 9 is the 9th Sephira on the Tree of Life, assigned to the Moon, each of the planets are assigned to a Sephira, which is the whole basis of the numbers of each planatery square.

The right numbers for what? Unless I've missed it, Freya, you haven't yet said what your purpose is.

Do you mean, for example, use for drawing sigils and seals? Or something else?

To be complete, here is the list of the numbers for each of the seven planets:
    3 - Saturn
    4 - Jupiter
    5 - Mars
    6 - Sun
    7 - Venus
    8 - Mercury
    9 - Moon

There are no (agreed upon) sephirothic attributions for the outer planets - they don't exist in that system. Or, if the most common recommendations are taken, you can't compose a magical square from them. (For example, you can't make a magick square from the number 2.

Thank you Jim. What would you recommend to work with the outer planets in therms of sigils and symbols? I am not aware of sigils of the outer planets either, unless they have been created recently.

I'd recommend getting completely comfortable with the seven classic planets first. I wouldn't associate them with sigils in the classic sense (just my bias), although there are other ways of drawing these if necessary. For example, the Golden Dawn's Second Order would derive sigils from the pattern of Hebrew letters on the rose they wore over the hearts. This, of course, presumes that the name is renderable as Hebrew.

To generalize, if you want to apply the same sigillic approach to planets without their own magick squares, you need to find a framework that is neutral and not expressive of any particular planet. In theory, there are many of these, and I don't have specific recommendations.
