Evocation Guides?

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone here knew of a solid guide for evocation that's clear and straightforward?
I have the Lesser key and Mather's Abramelin translation but I'm looking for something that would
be just a simple, modern, and practical guide for someone just beginning with Solomonic Evocation.

I'm ordering it before I go to bed, when it arrives I'll check Ritual No.8.
Right now, I'm not jumping into evocation but I'm studying it in detail so that when I do
arrive at a point where it's "necessary" I'll be ready. Just from how much I'm reading so far
it's overwhelming, but also very exciting.

Duquette and Hyatt's Aleister Crowley's Illustrated Goetia is very reader friendly and clear.

I was actually just looking into this a few hours ago. Have you compared this to the Crowley/Mathers Goetia?
I'm divided on which is better, probably will order it on Amazon. BTW that Henson Goetia is quite nice, expensive though!

Plenty of practice

How about following your intuition- that will be the first thing you will notice when you evoke. You should notice a new energy through your intuition.
Learn to trust it, let it guide you.

Also, with practice you should, in time, work out what works for you- what turns the magickal wheels for you.

If you specifically mean Goetia, then my recommendation is a poor one because my sample doesn't deal with the method and spirit catalogue called Goetia.

I was answering a more general question about evocation (which is how I understood your question).

I don't think you'll be disappointed with the book when you get it, but I also didn't want you to thin I was misleading you by falsely suggesting it spoke to a more specific topic.

No worries Jim, I wanted a copy of 776 1/2 for quite awhile.
I'll be sure to bring it with me next Harpocrates meeting!

Study the Legemeton. It can be cumbersome, but working that particular system including making the pantacles. It fills in many of the gaps in the Goetia, includign how to make offerings to the spirits etc.. I made all the pantacles and would pin them to my robe when doing Goetic evocations with great success.

it's a simplified guide to Solomonic evocation. That forum is all about evocation so it's worth having a look through it.

These days as there are many more grimoires published it's also possible to read numerous ones and decide which one appeals to you the most. Different ones have different approaches and characteristics.
