For ceremonies, Eshelman suggests tracing the hexes and pents with your instrument.
What is the best object for an instrument? What do you personally prefer?

As a general rule: I generally go with the Dagger for banishing and the Wand for invoking, in that order.

It depends on the operation, among other things.

Most of the time, I use a finger.

There's something marvelous about the simplicity of the finger. Part of your body.

Agreed. The best magicians are self-sufficient.

I'm planning on making a wand from ash wood, with 7 rings of various metals. Would this be the best instrument for Mars-related evocations?

Did you read the rest of this thread? I'm thinking that the middle finger would be best, pointed upwards, the back facing the object of contempt 😉

On a serious note though, surely and Iron banded rod (maybe of ash because it was used for spearshafts) or even simply a rod of iron if you wanted to get technical, just don't use it outdoors in a thunderstorm. 😆

Very funny, Solitarius. I'm going to laugh out loud the next time someone flashes me their mighty rod of Mars evocation in traffic!! 😆 😆 😆

    93,

Let's go with finger (or fingers) on this one.

However, something must be said for fashioning your own "weapon" and the time, focus, and dedication that is put into it. It can be considered metaphor in relation to the seriousness of the aspiration involved. It can also have a profound psychological effect.

Full ceremony does have its privileges. Finger banging is fun...but sometimes you want to work your wand.
