What are the chances that Crowley was referring to the substance "soma", probably either ephedra or amanita muscaria? (Indra drank soma, a plant giving long-lasting sharpening and stimulating/immortalizing effects, before battling Indra.)

He is quoted saying that it would be hard to procure the raw material in America or England, but that they were acquiring it, expensively, from another part of the world.

If this isn't Ma Huang, then it is some sort of plant mixture.

No, he didn't mean any plant substance at all.

His remark about the difficulty of procurement in America and England meant that it is far harder for a man to get laid there compared to more civilized countries.

It may be interested for you to know that the Greek word "σώμα" [soma] means "body", and Crowley was at a time working upon a Greek gematria, if I recall correctly.

Body, as in the Flesh, Bread, and the Life?

The manna of the old testament. Psilocybe mushrooms forming in small round masses on the ground, it's myceleum looking like "hoar frost", the fruit bodies themselves forming in the morning, melting in the sun, and bred worms and stank when not stored or prepared properly.

So, ol' Crowley figured it out, eh? No surprise to me.

Nothing else I know of really give one energy, spirit, and True wit for an entire twenty four hours.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I read in a Don Michael Craig book that "Elixer of life" was semen and vaginal fluid mixed, and had to be fresh.

    He's correct.

Except...that's not the whole story. There's a difference between fresh, warm milk right out of the cow and creme brulee.
