Assumption of Godform
-
93,
I am currently working with Rodney Orpheus' book Abrahadabra and I am having a large amount of difficulty assuming the godform of Hoor-Paar-Kraat. I am supposed to do it in my chosen asana that I started with (God Posture) and do some visualization with my thumb pressed to my lips, which is hard on it's own to maintain but I assume this will become less difficult with time just like my asana. I was just wondering how difficult this was or is for any of you? I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or if I just suck horribly at visualization. I'm hoping it will just get easier but I can only hold it for 4-5 mins max before I give up because I feel it's going nowhere fast. Any advice or accounts of your own experience with this would be greatly appreciated.

Exactly what problem are you having?
That is: What isn't working, or is working differently than you expect?

I just sit in the God posture and visualize myself as Hoor-Paar-Kraat seated on a lotus flower in the Nile. Pyramids are on the land reflecting the light of the sun beating down. Crocodiles are in the Nile but I'm protected by the blue/black egg. I'm supposed to sit like this for a while and identify with the godform, I'm just having a great deal of difficulty visualizing and was just wondering if there was any sort of tricks to this or if anyone else had a hard time with visualization when they started as well? Or if there might be some additional exercises to help train my visualization? In hindsight this wasn't a great question but I was curious if this was normal or if anyone else experienced this when first starting out.

Sure, most people have some difficulty getting the knack. It depends on your power of imagination, your ability to concentrate, and so forth.
The particular way you are doing the exercise is essentially a meditation. It will benefit from the same sort of things. Are you picking a time and place that you're alert and undistracted? Do some preliminaries to quiet and focus the mind, such as rthymic breathing. And, in general, practice meditation itself to develop similar skills.

I see, thank you.
Hmm.
Why not invoking the God you are now merely visualizing?
Invite, invoke Him in and see the difference. -

Like, say, learning to keep basic rhythm before someone turns you loose on a drum kit. Or strengthening your body in general before getting to start tackling a particular risky sport. Or learning active listening skills before starting on a crisis phone line with real people. Or learning to properly display and open a bottle of wine before being turned loose waiting tables. Or watching an HR video on sexual harassment before they release you into the pool of female employees.
You can learn the skill by itself as a building block.
Of course, until you get a real drum, it just isn't the same

From your description, it seems you are doing just fine.
Meaning : just keep up the practice and it should come easier to you over time.A few suggestions that may assist you to "get into character":
(1)Try finding an incense that is either associated with the God or makes you think of them.
(2)Pick out a color or an item that you associate with the God and have it either on you or around you. You could even go so far and make an entire costume.
(3) Speak a prayer or make an invocation to the particular God, inviting them to dwell within before performing the exercise. -

Сontinuing the topic
I'm going to start to master this practice. And I want to start with Harpocrates, in particular because Crowley advised the assumption of this godform as a means of strengthening the aura.
Mr. Eshelman, could you tell me the key points of this form. What elements of image are essential? Is the image of this deity from "Aeon" Trump adequate for practice?
Thank You! -
I'm not Jim, he may have different thoughts, but the essential property of the godform of Harpocrates is the raising of the finger to the lips. The physical assumptions of godforms have no power in and of themselves. They need to be injected with power through the resignation of the Ego to the application of "love under will" towards the deity whose form one is assuming. It is that the godforms recall to the mind the continual focus upon that which they represent that makes them potent.
The safeguard for all magical and mystical work is Silence; particularly mental quiescence when infused by will. This is symbolized by Harpocrates, the Babe in the Egg. Study all of the symbolisms of Harpocrates for maximum effectiveness of the godform, especially in conjunction with The Fool of the Atu of Thoth and also in his connection as one of the dual aspects of Heru-ra-ha.

Thanks for your answer! You know, this is exactly the answer I need!
