Is it always necessary to invoke the archangels with the Greater Pentagram Ritual? As in, after banishing in the four quarters?

I don't know which of two ways you mean your question. (By "Greater" I'll assume you mean "Supreme," since the "Greater Ritual of the Pentagram" has never been published.)

Do you mean, "When performing the Supreme Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram, do you have to invoke the archangels?"
The answer is: Yes, by definition. Otherwise it isn't the Supreme Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram. It's something else.

Or, do you mean: "If you wish to invoke the archangels, do you have to use the Supreme Ritual of the Pentagramto do it?"
The answer is: No, you can use other means.

I believe that is a revised version of the GRP, he wrote on the train to India.

Public golden dawn texts themselves specify our "regular" Greater Pentagram ritual as the "Greater" pentagram ritual, however from what we have been told, it is a misnomer, as even though the "Greater ritual of the Hexagram" is the same as in Liber O, the "Supreme Ritual of the Pentagram" should be listed in Liber O instead of the "Greater RP".

The Star Ruby is just a revised version of the LBRP, but it is called the "Star Ruby", not any lesser pentagram ritual.

Might we get a hint, sir Jim, of the similarity between the "Greater" pentagram ritual and the "Supreme" pentagram ritual?
