It would be more accurate to translate Pashut or Pashutah as "Simple," "Absolute," or "Pure". One can have "Emunah Pashutah" or "Simple Faith"/"Pure Faith," and in the Higher Levels (Way Upstairs) the Divinity is a "Simple Unity" or "Absolute Unity" (Achdut Pashutah)... Nequdah Pashutah is a "Simple Point," "Simply a Point," or an "Absolute Point". This also relates to the Seder Hishtalshalut or "Chaining Down of Worlds," as this Simple Point undergoes movements that extend it in egression and retraction, and these Primordial Movements "Engrave" markings, etc. into the Spherical Configuration left by its retraction. There is also a relation to the "World of Points" or "Olahm Nequdot"...

Music and Qabalah93s
From a Golden Dawn perspective the following blog posts may be found helpful. The material relates to several RR et AC papers on such topics as the Table of Shewbread, the Seven Branched Candlestick, Ritual of the Heptagram, Scrying and Traveling, etc.
Sounds are associated with colours. Aspects of the harmonics scheme are associated with a species of after-ring or echoing quality of the instrument that extends forth after playing the tone note. There are two different colour schemes for the harmonics of each note. The Scales are associated with modes but I was only able to utilize the 4 mentioned in the text I have, rather than promote conjecture with my weak knowledge of music theory. I wish I knew more of music proper but I do what I can with what I've got.

If the colour schemes are of interest, you can work backwards from the front of the blog or start with the post on the *12 Sons of Jacob *and work forward. There are some explanations of aspects of the Queen Scale Path colours and the King Scale Sefirotic colours that might be found of interest.

Avoiding Pitfalls in the Golden Dawn SystemA bit rambling, but I am also very tired... that having been said; I am quite involved in Lurianic (which is actually "Zoharic") Kabbalah (albeit in its more radical and heretical forms) and would emphasize that in ALL the Lurianic Writings, the Holy ARI ("The Lion" and also the ONLY Kabbalist ever given the monicker "Alohi" as in Alohi Rabbi Izaak, i.e. ARI... later changed by the Orthodoxy ,i.e. the "Erev Rav" to Ashkenazi Rabbi Izaak to downplay his Angelic Nature), OBM, without fail; indicates that any use of Images to express the sexual interactions between the G_dly forces are strictly to "suit the eyes" of the student, just as the use of Words is only intended to "suit the ears" of the student. The Holy Ari, OBM, strongly warns that the higher concepts can only be alluded to by these Finite methods of communication based in the Physical Human senses. They are ONLY used to "foster understanding" in the student.
One should consider that the very "Shattering of the Vessels", or "Death of the Kings of Edom" coincides with the blasphemous attempt at limiting that which is boundless; by the Creation, Formation, and Actualization of Words and Images which occurred with the blasphemous utterance of the Ineffable Name "by the Divinity itself". So, yes, I am saying the Creative Fiat was a Left-handed action. The Lurianic writings most surely indicate that the Sexual Potencies are in no way dependent upon any Imagery whatsoever; but that the Secret Doctrine of said Potencies often requires the use of such Imagery to be even remotely understood by the student who has not directly experienced "Unifications" (Yehudim) with the Forces via the various "Couplings" (Zivvugim) symbolized by the interactions between Partzufim, and the various components of Holy Writ, per se.
"True" Lurianic Kabbalah is far more akin to Tantra (One of the "Gifts" given to the "Children of Keturah" by Abraham... "We are all related") than is commonly perceived. The conundrum is the usual assumption that the Religious Orthodoxy promotes the True Lurianic Kabbalah. We know that the holder of the Luyrianic Writings or "Kitvei Ha'ARIZAL" (Schmuel Vital) was directly involved with the Chelebi Raphael Joseph who received some of the first letters from Nathan of Gaza, OBM. Schmuel Vital read and voiced no opposition to "The Prophet" who was considered the reincarnation (Gilgul) of the Holy ARI, OBM... and the Holy ARI, OBM was considered the reincarnation of Schimeon Bar Yochai, OBM; the composer of the Zohar or "Spiritual Oral Torah"...
Thus, Schmuel Vital, OBM, was involved directly in the Sabbatian inner circle surrounding Nathan the Prophet, OBM. The Orthodoxy and particularly the Hasidim ignore this...
This circle felt strongly (as did the majority of the World's Jewish population) that Shabtai Tzvi housed the "Messiah" within his Physical Vehicle, and that Yeshu (Jesus) had been the "Qliphah of the Messiah". The paradigm promoted by the Messiah speaking through Shabtai Tzvi (AMIRaH), before he was occulted away to Tifaret, and later absorbed into the Sefirotic configuration; was the Talmudic maxim, "Mitzvah Ha'Ba'ah Ba'Averah" or "The Violation of the Law is its (True) Fulfillment" (semi-translated by Scholem as "Redemption through Sin"), and the related Theology developed by Nathan the Prophet, OBM; concerning the multi-level Aeonic Progression termed "Shemitah" becomes quite interesting in a Thelemic context...
P.S. My mother's ancestors were Polish Believers (Ma'aminim) or 'Frankists' that quite successfully hid their ancestry and beliefs behind a veneer of Catholicism, but were later assimilated. In Frankism the Potencies/Partzufim assumed Physical Form in the Body of the Believers, and this was the basis for some of the Sexual Rites. If it were not for such Rites I would not exist. So, there are many levels to the Partzufim.

Mr Schwartz does not practice Jewish Kabbalah his self, but does advocate practices that are considered dangerous in conventional Kabbalah. In fact, any suggestion of traditional Kabbalistic Theurgy as opposed to Thamaturgy receives a worse response from him than suggesting Crowley was a Holy person or that Thelema is a valid paradigm. He was very harsh when I suggested Talit and Tefillim were the traditional Kabbalistic "Magickal Tools". And then sent me a nasty nasty email because I am Sabbatian and have written articles on Sexual Theurgic practices for a Pagan Magazine. Mr Schwartz does have an excellent command of Hebrew grammar and linguistics but he is extremely prejudiced, and quite a hypocrite in my opinion. He attempts to give an unearned legitimacy to W. Gray's teachings as if they are in-line with traditional Kabbalah... they are not! and would be considered very negatively. Kabbalists in the Lurianic School "never" chant aloud. Some Sefardim do but this must be balanced with silent chanting. Mr Schwartz hides such dynamics from his students, and does not warn them of changes in the Ma'asah Mercabah that make the old ways very dangerous. He is a poser at best, and likes to name drop a family link to the Holy ARIZAL, OBM... while chastising any real Lurianic Kabbalists that cross his path.
M. Mathers tried to do use certain old methods with some Qliphotic Mercabah related material. The release of this lecture coincided with the Horos scandal where Mathers thought Madame Horos was the legendary Soror SDA. The fall from the Palace of Tifareth is described in the *Zohar * as the often observed "ego Inflation" of Occult leaders... they become "enamored of a false reflection" which they mistake for Deity and thus never realize they were shuttled into the "Other Side" of the Sefirah.

behind the Tree?Hello,
You may want to explore the writings of Kenneth Grant in regards to the use of the "Other Side" of the Tree as likewise (or close enough) interpreted in Circles around Tau Michael.
However, in traditional Kabbalah the Tree has both a "Front" or "Face" as well as a "Back" or "Posterior". In fact all the Partzufim are so divided... this is also what determines the directional flow of the Celestial Influence and how and whether the Partzufim couple as well as at what level. You can see one example of the Face and Posterior of the Partzufim in Aryeh Kaplan's text on the Sefer Yetzirah. In this text there are some charts/diagrams labeled as the Partzufim of the Sefirot inclusive of Da'at. These diagrams of the Sefirotic Partzufim are taken from Emek Ha'Melekh. these same charts/diagrams were also included in Rosenroth's massive tome.
One should keep to mind that the Qliphot are also termed "The Other Side" (Sitra Achara) and the "Strangers" (or Achrim) and sometimes termed the "Exteriors".
I find it doubtful that Kenneth Grant had these dynamics in mind but they do have a relationship to very old Kabbalistic dynamics and schemae.
I will likely not receive a reply to my post as I'm having difficulty updating my email address.

Briatic formulaeThe revolution of the Names is taken verbatim from Rosenroth's Cabala Denudata, Partis Quarta, on Figura XVI. Rosenroth cut and pasted the Permutations primarily from Pardes Rimmonim by Rabbi Moshe Cordovero, OBM. The Angelic Names are from a variety of sources: RaMBaN, Beth Elohim/Casa La Divinidad, Emek Ha'Melekh, Pardes Rimmonim, etc.
I am unable to get the darn site to change/update my email, so I will not receive responses to this post, but I hope this is found helpful. 777 and Sepher Sephiroth are largely cut and pastes directly from Rosenroth. In fact many terms were not even translated from the Latin, and Crowley provides some abbreviations acknowledging Rosenroth's tome. In Sepher Sephiroth he takes a great many terms from Rosenroth's Lexicon section, and simply provides the gematria. Some of the other information in both *777 *and in Sepher Sephiroth is taken from GD schemas (see for example MGH SR SSDD's notes appended to The Westcott Court Cards edited by Darcy Kuntz of the GD Trust). Other information comes from Crowley, but the majority can be traced to the sources outlined above.

compassion is the vice of kings93,
This is a very interesting thread. I went through the posts quite rapidly, so I hope I'm not mentioning something that has already been touched on.
However, I'm going to touch on this subject through the Kabbalah. Yup, with a "K".
Sometimes there is confusion due to a partial understanding of Hebrew terms. I will try to clear up some of this confusion where it pertains to the topic at hand.
There are three pillars on the Tree of Life. Left, Right, and Center. This is common knowledge. Typically these pillars are named after the Sefirah that heads them (below the Supernals).
The left hand pillar is called the pillar of "Severity" because the Hebrew term "Geburah" is often translated as severity. Yet Geburah can also mean "Strength". The term "Din" (strict justice/judgement, or judicial rigor) can also be applied to the left hand pillar as a whole, as well as it can be applied to the fifth Sephirah.
The right hand pillar is called the pillar of "Mercy" because the Hebrew term "Chesed" is often translated as mercy. Gadulah (Greatness, Growth, or Maturation) can also be applied to the right hand pillar and the fourth Sephirah. However, the term "Chesed" can cause some problems. In Kabbalah it is translated as "Loving Kindness" just as often as it is translated as "Mercy". Sometimes the translation "Loving Kindness" is more accurate.
Where the translation of "Chesed" as the single word "Mercy" really becomes problematic is when we examine the Central Column or read Kabbalistic texts that utilize "Loving Kindness" for "Chesed", and "Rachamim" for "Tiphareth".
Tiphareth is usually translated as "Beauty" but the Sixth Sephirah has a second name, "Rachamim". "Rachamim" is also the title of the Central Column. "Rachamim" can be translated as "Mercy" or "Compassion".
If we utilize the term Severity (Geburah) for the left hand pillar, and Mercy or Loving Kindness (Chesed) for the right; then we may utilize Compassion (Rachamim) for the central column.
Now, we can see that compassion is the "balance" of mercy and severity. It is also the Middle Pillar and the Palace of the "Holy King".
One may be content to arrive at this place. This is the "Vice" of "Kings". A complacency with this level of attainment. This too must be poured freely into the Chalice. The blood is the Nephesch (in Kabbalah that is). The Ruach unites with Neschamah in the Heart (which pumps the Blood). Good wine "ferments". This "Lifeblood" has transmuted itself and is now that which reaches beyond the Reason and causes "Drunkenness". It is the "Blood of the Saints" since they have attained "Rachamim". Now, the opposites, their equilibrium and balance, the King/Saint, and the whole shebang needs to be destroyed. To be complacent with this level of attainment (Tiphareth) is quite definitely a "Vice" of "Kings".
Well, that is my take on things.

Daath/the Abyss93,
I found the following statement from Jim to be one of the most accurate statements whether taken from a Kabbalistic or Qabbalistic standpoint I've ever read:
"Da'ath is a representation of the Supernals as seen from below the Abyss."
However, I also agree with the statements from the Zohar, but they mean something entirely different than most people would interpret them.
The highest teachings in the Kabbalah surround the Sexual Act which concerns Da'ath. Da'ath and the Supernals are beyond verbal description. They represent, for lack of a better explanation; the "Roots" of things that can "eventually" be put into words. They beget the Children through the Son, so to speak.
Words are limiting and the cause of Restriction thus the Lower Seven Sephiroth are Kabbalistically referred to as "Middot", which means "Measurements" or "Attributes".
They are inherently "Blasphemous", as they place "Restrictions" on something that is "Infinite" and therefore beyond description. However, it is the only way to "attempt" to "extend" the "Infinite" unto "Limited" and "Finite" beings (whom may not really be limited or finite at all... they just don't "know" it yet).
The Supernals are traditionally or Kabbalistically (as opposed to Qabbalistically) described as "Mochin" or "Brains". This excludes Kether. Thus we have the terms Wisdom, Understanding, and Knowledge... Kether is the "Crown" because it "Encircles" (Kithre) the Brains. The only thing that can be grasped of Kether is the Knowledge or Union of Hokmah and Binah. Da'ath is the Inner Light and animating force of the Lower Sephiroth. On one level it is the Son or result of the Union of the Father and Mother. On another level it is beyond them both. It is the "Source" of Vav as the extension of the Line of Light and therefore also the Son.
Ratzohn means Will, its permutation is Tzinor which means Channel. They both have a gematria of 346, as does Mequr or Fount.
If we use water as an analogy... The higher Will is a Fountain(Da'ath) that has its source in a hidden Reservoir that is Concealed (Kether, the Koach H'Maskil or Force that Inspires and can not be seen or grasped below), it feeds a hidden Aquifer that bubbles up through the crevices as this Wellspring or Fount (Da'ath). The only thing that can be grasped is its "Apparent" Source, which is the Wellspring or Fount that flows into the Channels. Kether is the true source, Da'ath is the Fountain. Therefore "In Da'ath the Depths are broken up".
Wisdom is the Lightning Flash, it can not be explained or comprehended but motivates the preformation of thought, that on a yet lower level can be formulated into words... this is Understanding (The preformation of Thought; a species of Higher Aspiration and not the "Verbal" thought itself... these are the "Children" of the Mother... the Seven Lowers). Wisdom is the emergence of the Water from the Spring. Understanding is the Current of the Water as it flows, it is the Current, but not the actual Length itself. This Current eventually forms the Great Sea, whose waters are bitter because they are the source of the "restricting" words that are attempt to "enclothe" it.
Only below can thought be measured/restricted by Words. Thus the Vav above becomes the "Line of Measure" or "Kav H'Middot" below, as it pours into the Channels.
None of these can be contained in a Vessel until they are "Restricted". Therefore it is said that Tiphareth (as representing Microprosopus and the surrounding Five Sephiroth) is capable of providing a "Vessel" for Da'ath. When the Vessel is provided one has "Inner Light" or "Brains" but these are not the True Supernal Lights. They can not be contained in a Vessel.
The Letters are Empty Vessels. When they fill with Light... they are Sephiroth but can only receive, so they are capable of Shattering... when they are able to Give as well as Receive they are Personages or Countenances, because they are capable of interacting and "Knowing" (Oh Yeah!) each other.
The Middle Pillar is the Generative member. It is the Line and capable of "Knowing" the Female at several different levels. Yes, Microprosopus is quite well endowed! He transmits the Influence but only when the Female "Desires" cause the appropriate response!
The Feminine waters are the desires of the Female to the Male (Causing growth from the Foundation... Gedulah of Yesod). The Masculine Waters are the Desires of the Male to the Female. Thus the Light flows through the Channels, it ascends and descends.
The Sexual positioning... Face to Face, Face to Back cause variations of the flow through the Channels. When the positioning is Back to Back... no influence can flow and all is Restriction.
Something is produced in Union that is "Not" of the "Two" or the "One", but simply "Not".
In other words, its all about the Sex; even the analogy of the Waters.
Hard to explain, hopefully I didn't confuse things further. It probably would have been more efficient to say I agree with what Jim said, and leave it at that. However, I also agree with the Zohar which is actually explaining cryptically the Sexual component in a highly concealed manner. A Nun might say, "There will be none of that filling up conclaves and carrying on like that, here in Catholic School!"

Hello again,
Thank you for the kind words and the support. I'm a little new to the whole publishing thing. One mistake I made was when I set my account up... I thought the transaction limit was daily. Well, it was a monthly limit, which I exceeded within 24 hours. This caused a my account to go offline temporarily while I was at work today. So, I apologize if this has inconvenienced anyone. I have corrected this issue and the account is back online. Also, thank you to anyone who has purchased the book.

New Book93,
Hello
I just wanted to inform the list that I have produced a book that reveals some interesting details of the Tarot and how it meshes with the G.'.D.'. Enochian system through the convoluted forces and the Tree of Life as Projected into a Solid Sphere. It has a particular focus on the Dragon Formulae and provides a Kabbalistic background to the material. It continues with an analysis of the 42 Assessors, the Aesch Mezareph, and the G.'.D.'. paper on the "Masculine and Feminine Potencies". It also contains a visual analysis of the Westcott Enochian Tablets, an expansion of the A.'.O.'. diagram from the Paper "On the G_ds who rule above the Pyramids of the Four Cherubic Squares...", several unpublished diagrams from the Enochian material in the Big Bricks, G_dform cards from a 1980's American G.'.D.'. Temple, the working of one of the Aethyrs, information on the Tarot sigils, etc. Alot of this information has never before been seen or published and should be found quite interesting to G.'.D.'. and Thelemic students.
It is published as an ebook and price is $21.93. It is 378 pages, plus more in the form of various links.
It can be purchased here:
www.payloadz.com/go/sip?id=629633
And I have started a blog to kind of kick things off (it also has links to the book; check out the diagram at the bottom of the blog, its pretty cool!):

Kavvanot and Abrogation93
Abrogate are all rituals, all ordeals, all words and signs.
Following the advent of the New Aeon does the Kavvanot (Mystical Intent) of the Thelemite in itself abrogate the rituals, ordeals, words, and signs?
For example if one's family celebrates a now abrogated Holiday... can the Mystical Intent of the Thelemite attending (if the worship and celebration is Mystically intended to celebrate the New Aeon...) alter or rather transmute this Dark Holiday into a more Aeon appropriate Celebration?

Pure Will and True Will93,
Well this became more long winded than I had initially intended…
There are far more knowledgeable people on this forum that very likely have a better perspective of the difference between True and Pure Will than myself. However, sometimes a different point of view can lead to further ideas and discussion, so I'll throw myself into the mix, so to speak.
I think this is a pretty good place to start:
@Scapegoa said
""True Will" is specific and relative to a given object. "Pure Will" is an essential principle."
Particularly, if we look at the context that the term "Pure Will" is brought forth in Liber L.
"For pure will, unassuaged of purpose, delivered from the lust of result, is every way perfect."
To my way of thinking… if we start from the premise that “Pure” Will is the essential principle in and of itself, unlimited by words which are “Restrictions” (“The ‘Word’ of sin is ‘Restriction’”)… we begin to make some headway.
"The Perfect and the Perfect are one Perfect and not two; nay, are none!"
Therefore, “Pure Will” is “Nought”… since “Pure Will” is Perfect, and “Perfect” is “Nought”.
"Nothing is a secret key of this law. Sixty-one the Jews call it; I call it eight, eighty, four hundred & eighteen."
I’ll stick with 61 for now (although I have some intuitions about 8, 80, and 418 in relationship to 61). AIN (Nought/Nothing) = 61 and as we know, this is the “No Thing” of the Kabbalah. One meaning attached to AIN Kabbalistically is that it refers to “Concealment”. This “Nothing” that is “Concealed” is therefore not “Known” and thus can not be described per se. To describe it… would be to impose “Restriction”.
If we examine this carefully we see that “Nothing” is beyond “Wisdom, Understanding, and Knowing” (Knowledge, Wisdom, Understanding = Mochin [Mentalities] i.e. the Supernal Sephiroth in a more Kosher interpretation), it is beyond any attributes at all (attributes = middot = measures = Seven Lower Sephiroth). So, this is the “Unrestricted” Will. It is “Potential” Will as opposed to Will that is “Actualized”. Will that has been “Actualized” is “Revealed” and thus no longer “Concealed”, and thus Something (Yesh; Hebrew for “Something”) versus the concept of Nothing (AIN). Nothing has to be “Restricted” (i.e. in Hebrew “Tzimtzum”) to become “Something”.
Let me go on a slight tangent… and use humans as an example.
Our “Potential” Will is nearly “Boundless” (without limit, i.e. Ain Soph). I may “Desire” “Perfection” when this desire strikes me, I “Emanate” a “Lightning Flash” of a “Thought” to “Create” a perfect Thelemic Society on a beautiful island in the Pacific. This lightning flash and thought to create is then “Formed” into mental words that precede my “Actions” to “Make” this happen. However, the various planes that my “Potential” Will is exposed to place “Restrictions” on the “Potential” Will. I definitely would have to consider the financial end of things, the planning, weather, building materials, labor, etc. After all these “Restrictions” are considered… I end up meeting every other Tuesday with anybody with a slight interest in Thelema at my home in a small town in Michigan.
Now, all anyone can know about my Will in this matter is what can be “Revealed” through my “Actions”. So, the nearly perfect “Potential” Will is an entirely different entity than my “Revealed” or “Actualized” Will.
If we creatively draw from this analogy… “Pure” Will is in a way, “Unlimited” Desire for “Nothing” and thus “Perfect” because it has not been “Restricted” by Thought, Word, or Deed. It is beyond “Truth” and “Falsehood” and so highly “Concealed” that it can not be apprehended… and is thus “Nothing”, and therefore “Unassuaged of Purpose”, and “Delivered from the Lust of Result”.
Since it is “Nothing” it is beyond “One”. “One” implies “Two” and is therefore subject to both “Truth” and “Falsehood”.
However, “True” Will has a “Purpose” which is described in the next stanza…
“But they have the half: unite by thine art so that all disappear.”
“One” being the half of “Two”, which is the “Revelation” that “Truth” and “Falsehood” are equal necessities to the “Realization” or “Actualization” of “Pure” Will… if by art we unite the Opposites thus destroying both concepts we are led to that most “Concealed” place that has “No Limit” and “No Name” (i.e. it can not be grasped by the intellect or described in any manner at all – this is why the Prophet often appears as a “Fool”). This is the “No Where” and no Sin exists there as it is beyond the “Restriction” that causes the initial dichotomy of being in the “First” Place. The first step being the Knowledge and Conversation of the Holy Guardian Angel. For this to occur we must first learn the art of “Silence”… and that progressively. This is also the reason that Initiation is so important to our evolution.

What is "The Trance of Sorrow"?93s
Hello,
It has been my personal experience that the Unimaginable Joy that accompanies each progressive state of Union, leading to an ever closer Proximity to, and Identification with Deity; is also accompanied with Sorrow at the Realization of the Transient Nature of the Experience, and the Vast Distance that needs to be Overcome in the Process.
The Mandala is Beautiful but is scattered so easily when the Wind moves all the Grains of Sand composing it.
I've been very Contemplative of Late and lack the appropriate words to describe this dichotomy that seems to... explain the experience.
I'm not quite sure if this is a similar experience to what is being referred to as the "Trance of Sorrow" or not.
Tiphareth comes out of the Left Side of the Tree, out of the Side of "Restriction", yet the Left Side also provides that "Martial" quality that seems to gear one up to attempt to advance further, and experience "Lovingkindness". The Sorrow leads to Joy and the Joy leads to Sorrow. The Seed rots in the ground before new growth occurs.
The best I can come up with sound pathetically like cliche's.

Court Card Correlations93s
Hello,
I don't know if this would be helpful or not...
However, the relationship between the Cards and IHVH is presented graphically by the images, particularly in the Initiated decks.
Yod - Atziluth - Emmanation - Abba (Father), ie the Force emanated and coming forth from the infinite is represented by the Knight as the motive force. In other words the Knight is sitting atop a "Horse" = Motive Force.
Heh - Briah - Creation - Imma (Mother), is seated on a "Throne".
Since Father and Mother produce the "Son" the figure riding in the Chariot (Combination of Horse and Throne) is Vav - Yetzirah - Formation - Son.
The Heh final has feet firmly planted on the ground and represents the "Earthing" of the other forces. The Daughter - Sister - Bride.
Well, thats my 2 cents worth.

Daath and TipharetHello,
Good questions but my emphasis was in showing how Da'ath is included in the Divine Name for Tiphareth... as relating to their purpose within the same Partzuf, and encouraging meditation and study on the topic. Also, offering an alternative point of view.
However, I will provide some further information:
"It is important that one realize that the Letters and the Sephiroth are really One and the Same Thing. However, due to the fact that no Light spreads without a Vessel, when both are spoken of together (when the Light is clothed by a Vessel) they are termed “Sephiroth“ , but when the Vessels alone are spoken of they are then termed Letters (Otiot)."
"The Vessel has a different form than the Light and this is quite obvious upon examination. The Will to Receive is an entirely different Form because it is in no manner found within the Emanator. From Whom would he receive from?"
"The presence of Characters (Letters) points to either the presence of a Vessel or to the Source of One."
The Sephiroth are only able to shine when they have the ability to "Share" or "Give". The Sephiroth were organized into Partzufim as without this reorganization they were unable to "Give" but only were able to "Receive".
The letters are empty Vessels.
When these "Vessels" contain Light, they are termed "Sephiroth".
However, to emulate the "Creator" they have to do more than just "Receive". They must also "Give".
The Sephiroth can not "Give" until "Re-organized" into "Partzufim" and thereby emulate the "Creator".
"Giving" is referred to as "Shining".
The "Kabbalah" is about "Receiving" and "Giving"... Light.
There is more of a distinction here than Semantics, yet there is a Unity between Letters, Sephiroth, Partzufim but to "Understand" this, requires study and meditation.
However, the Partzufim are not the same as the Sephiroth. For example... Zaur Anpin has only 6 Sephiroth and is not complete without a full compliment of 10 Sephiroth... he receives one by conjoining with the Female, and three through the development of the "Mochin" (Mental Powers/Brains) as he "Matures".
Note how small children have difficulty "Sharing" but are able to freely "Give" as they "Mature.
"A Partzuf is only considered complete when all Ten of its Individual Sephiroth Shine."
Hope this helps but my explanations are no substitute for meditation and study... and again my response was meant to show a correlation between the word Da'ath being a component of the Divine Name of Tiphareth. The relationship between the use of Names as given in Gikatilla's "Portae Lucis" along with study of "The Book of Concealed Mystery" and the Greater and Lesser Holy Assemblies" of the Zohar; along with "Chayim Vital's "The Tree of Life" would be good sources of validating my statements.

Daath and TipharetDo What Thou Wilt Shall Be The Whole Of The Law
Hello,
I will offer a different take on your question.
@Metzareph said
"I'm curious about the similar Hebrew name that is used for Daath and Tipharet that involves "Knowledge". Do you know why this is?"
I have a somewhat different perspective here... I do not have the negative impression of the system of the Holy ARI (Elohi Rabbi Izaak - "The G_dly Rabbi Isaac") that is quite pervasive here. Personally I was led into a Thelemic paradigm by my work with this system (although in its "heretical" form) in conjunction with the system of the G.'.D.'.
In Zoharic or Lurianic Kabbalah the Partzufim take precedence over the Sephiroth. Zaur Anpin or Microprosopus being the Collectivity of Sephiroth 4-9 (4-10 when conjoined with his female counterpart – "Nukba") is "Animated" by Da'ath. The Seven Lower Sephiroth of the Sovereign Edifice are termed "Middot" or "Measures" referring to the "Attributes" of the Divine and Nameless One. The Supernal Sephiroth are considered "Mochin" meaning "Mental Powers", "Mentalities", or quite literally "Brains" (note: the Names Wisdom, Understanding, and Knowledge as distinguished from Mercy, Severity, etc). The Supernals manifest as the "Mochin" in Zaur Anpin through Da'ath and form the entire "Inner Light" of the Partzuf, Zaur Anpin. Kether means "Crown" as it "Encircles" the Tree and is thus not actually a part of it. Achievement of Da'ath by the issuance of the "Mochin" into Microprosopus is what is referred to in the Hermetic Orders as Kether. (ie in the G.'.D.'. the descent of the letter Shin via Da'ath).
The Lurianic system is a focus on the personages or "Partzufim" as opposed to the Sephiroth. The World of Rectification or "Tiqqune Olahm" consists of these Partzufim which are the rectified Sephiroth that had shattered in the "Death of the Edomite Kings" (this is the "Breaking of the Vessels" or "Shevirah H'Kelim"... a Lurianic "received" doctrine). The tradition of Luria and the Lurianic Tree differs from the GRA tree (the Gaon of Vilna, is referred to as the GRA, or ha-GRA, an acronym for ha-Gaon Rabbi Eliyahu). In actuality, in the Lurianic Tree(s) the Paths are not fixed in stone. The Paths are formed and re-formed by the interactions that occur between the various Personages. This provides more flexibility than often presumed. The Paths do not exist until the Partzufim (Countenances/Personages) turn towards each other Face to Face. The Lurianic system is based on a Mythopoetic Interpretation of these various interactions. The previous Sephiroth shattered becuase they lacked the means to interact with each other. They could only receive the Infinite Light, and were unable to impart it. Since the nature of the Divine Light is Infinite the Sephiroth received until they shattered.
When the residua of the Fallen and Shattered Kings/Vessels were resurrected, they were reorganized into three Columns in the likeness of the Supernal Sephiroth, which did not shatter under the immensity of the light… they were also resurrected into the Partzufim/Countenances/Personages in order to give and receive the Light (forming a method of gradually reducing the Light… and a type of “bleeder valve” such as on the brakes of a motor vehicle).
The most important interactions between the Partzufim are of a Sexual Nature… made possible by the ability of certain Sephiroth of the Central Column to be able to ascend and descend the Tree. In particular, Yesod, Tiphareth, and Da’ath. Yesod (the sexual member) has to move up and down to stimulate “Zivugim” or Conjunctions between various Personages. Tiphareth provides a vessel to Da’ath; as Da’ath is the “Inner Light” of the Partzuf, Zaur Anpin… and thus lacks a "Vessel".
There is a reason both Da’ath and Tiphareth are attributed to the letter “Vav” which is the “Nail”… as this Central Line (the “Vav”) connects/conjoins things together. Think of when someone speaks crudely of sexual activity as “nailing” someone, per se.
The Hermetic Order of the G.’.D.’. incorporated many diagrams and Kabbalistic information from the Two Enormous Volumes of the “Cabala Denudata” of Christian Knorr von Rosenroth, which was primarily a collection of Lurianic Texts. Mathers only translated 3 short chapters of the Zohar (which are the Three primary chapters focused on by the Holy Lion, the G_dly One - Ashkenazi Rabbi Itzaak; the reincarnation of Simeon ben Yohai) in his translation of this/these tome(s). Thus they utilized syncretic methods in incorporating the names… which have hidden meanings… quite unknown in most Hermetic groups. Suffice it to say that if one really explores the texts in conjunction with the Zohar… these Names conceal many Mysteries most worthy of their study. Crowley included in 777 some of this material… which is necessary to perform certain Mystical Acts of Unification termed “Lurianic Yehudim”.
Think of letters without the thought to organize them into words. Only when "illumined" by the Light of the Intellect do they form words that can convey the Thought of the Creator of the Letters/Formulator of the Words, to another being. However, the being that receives the letters interprets them through her/his intellect before "Understanding" them. The letters, , the vessels, the attributes/emanations/Sephiroth, and the Personages form a whole so to speak. In their collective Unity they are meaningful, but lacking any part thereof... they are simply a jumble of non-sensical consonants that cannot communicate the "Divine Light". Meditation on the collective unity can "Impart" meaning and "Reveal" the things that are "Concealed" within.
Just my take on things. Hopefully, this doesn't confuse things more for you.
Love is the Law, Love under Will.

Historical development of Qabalah?93s!
Hi Tamara!
I have attempted to respond to your post several times but somehow lost the darn connection…. However, now I’ve gotten smart (or at least tired of retyping enough…) and will save my response to the word processor, and do the old cut and paste ritual.
Anyway, the original post stated:
“I want to know more about the development of Qabalah and how it relates to the history of how the Jews were treated.
I know that Qabalah was first developed by Jews, and then the system was borrowed by Christians, and later by the Golden Dawn.
I know that Jews were persecuted in Europe for centuries prior to the Nazis, but there must have also been periods of tolerance? I have read that Jews fared better under Islam than under Christianity historically - Moorish Spain was a height for Jewish thought. But were there periods of Christian tolerance of Jews?
So if Christians were studying Hebrew and Qabalah, it would have been during periods of toleration? Or were Christians taking knowledge from the Jews at the same time they were condemning them in pogroms?
Did Muslims ever adopt Qabalah?
Any information, websites, books on these topics....?”
Well, since I’m not currently working very much… I’ve actually had time to read some of the material posted on the website. First, I will mention that it appears that the “Lurianic” Kabbalah is not well received here. I find this quite interesting. However, the Lurianic and Sabbatean Kabbalah(s) relate strongly to your question regarding the relationship between the treatment of the Jews and the development of Hebrew Mysticism.
(On the other hand, I would also argue that the history of the Golden Dawn is directly related to the development of the Sabbatean Kabbalah (very unique twists on the Lurianic teachings and the later additions/redactions of Yaqob Frank). On a side note there is also a relationship between Sabbateanism and the HB of L, a predecessor to the O.T.O. and the Theosophical Society of Madam Blavatsky.)
The expulsion from Spain in 1492 caused the development of the “Marrano” or “Crypto-Jew”. Given the option of “Convert” (to Roman Catholicism), “Die” or face other punishments devised by the “Inquisitors”. The Kabbalah went underground… The Marrano practiced “Judaism” (and often times Kabbalah) disguised as a Convert. Secret Societies of Kabbalists remained in contact with others who had fled Spain in the Holy Land and abroad.
A Circle of Kabbalists gathered in Safed, Israel and included some of the most famed Mystics in Jewish history. The circle was composed of practitioners of Maggidic (Angelic) conversation and instruction. The “G_dly Rabbi Isaac” (Represented by the abbreviation ARI (Lion). The only Rabbi given this title… later changed to represent “Ashkenazi Rabbi Isaac” [also ARI] at the behest of the Right wing non-mystical crowd) at a young age appeared onto this scene (after isolating his self for years on an island in the Nile in Egypt much as the Saintly Rabbi Shimeon Bar Yochai isolated his self in a Cave) and became the leader of this circle of Mystics. They appointed a Person each to the Sephiroth in emulation of the Lower Assembly of he Zohar. He committed none of his vast teachings to writing and died at the age of 38. In some of my circles, he is considered the reincarnation of the Blessed Rabbi Shimeon Bar Yochai. However, one pupil (debatable with recent information on Rabbi Israel Sarug of blessed memory), Rabbi Chayim Vital Calabrese, was allowed to write down the teachings of the Holy Arizal.
These teachings held by Vital never reached the eye of anyone other than himself until, they were smuggled out from under his bed while he lay dying. Thus the original teachings were not fully released until later. Thus some variants of these teachings were printed before the actual writings taken down from the very lips of the Tzaddik were ever copied.
(Interestingly, Rabbi Schmuel Vital, may his place be great in the World to come, the codifier and inheritor of the teachings of the Holy Arizal (The Kitvei Ha’ARI) was amongst the Circle of the Blessed Rabbi Raphael Joseph, the supporter of the Mosiach and his Prophet.)
The Mystic teachings along with several Astronomical events and somewhat equivalent activity in Christendom (John Dee, Studion, Rosicrucian Manifestoes) set the stage for widely expected Messianic activity in Christendom, and within the Jews, in exile among the Nations.
The Chmielnicki Massacres occurred in 1648-9 and resulted in the murder of 100,000 - 200,000 Jews in Poland and the Ukraine. This was devastating to the collective Psyche of the Community of the Galut/Exile. The Ottoman Empire ruled the Holy Land (but at least were tolerant) and Jews were being annihilated in Europe.
Then a young scholar arose in Gaza, his name was Nathan, he was brilliant and recognized as a Prophet. He foresaw that the Chiah Mosiach dwelled within a troubled man named Shabtai Tzvi… who quite interestingly had been traveling to Gaza to seek out this most Holy Lamp, Nathan of Gaza. The Great Light shining through Nathan enabled him to heal many with troubled minds, broken bodies, and spirits. He was also able to discern the root of one’s soul and determine the appropriate tiqqunim (emendations) that could effect this repair.
Shabtai Tzvi had experienced episodes of presumed mania and delusions, wherein he believed his self to be, the Mosiach, Son of David and King of Israel. He had at times been able to abolish these thoughts, but at other times pronounced the ineffable name aloud, and committed other acts of Profanation and Violations of Torah. Upon approaching the Holy Lamp of Gaza with these problems, he was informed by the Great Prophet that he was indeed, the Mosiach of Israel.
The rising tension of an Anti-Semetic Europe, along with intense Messianic expectations and increased exposure to mystical and theurgic techniques, led to the largest Messianic movement in Jewish history (and in modern recorded history). Entire villages were consumed by Prophecy, even Christians convulsed on the ground mentioning “Shabtai Tzvi” specifically by name. There were many eyewitnesses to these events. However, although nearly all of the Jewish communities supported the Mosiach… he was taken to the Sultan where he… converted to Islam.
Specific Theology was already in place, that tapped strongly into the Collective Marrano and Exile impacted Psyche, of the Community of Israel. The Mosiach had to immerse his self into the Darkness, to rectify the Holy Sparks held by the Qlipphoth. This Theology caught on like wildfire. An Apostate Mosiach did not end the movement, nor did his death (He was “Occulted“ away to assume the role of the Holy King in the Sphere of Tiphareth). This sect developed a concept of Avatars of the Mosiach (Yeshua was the Shell or Qliphah of Mosiach). They also believed in Cosmic Aeons or Shemmitah, and the abrogation of the Torah. This led to a later avatar named Yaqob Frank… whereas Shabtai Tzvi converted to Islam… Frank converted to Catholicism therein uniting all 3 Abrahamic faiths. Later when he ran afoul of the Church (Sexual Rites, Alchemy, etc) he indicated the “G_ds of FreeMasonry will have to do for us now“.
His (Frank’s) nephew was Moses Dobruschka aka Von Schoenfeld aka Junius Frey. Moses Dobruschka (under another name) was the head of a group called “The Asiatic Brethren”. They had a temple called “Chevrah Zerach Bequr Aur” or “The Society of the Shining Light of Dawn”. This is quite interesting as the Golden Dawn supposedly derived from a Temple called “Chevrah Zerach Aur Bequr”.
Also worth mentioning is Johanne Falk, supposedly the Head of the London “Kabbalistic College” of Golden Dawn History. He was the ancestor of one Rabbi Schmuel Chayim Falk often called the “Ba’al Shem of London”. Rabbi Falk was forced to flee the continent after his secret Sabbatean faith was revealed. He was also the direct initiator of Cagliostro and Emmanuel Swedenborg.
A third figure is Louis Maximilion Bimstein, also known as “Max Theon” of the HB of L and the Movement Cosmique. He is mentioned in the Theosophical literature as “Serapis Bey” (before Madame Blavatsky’s Masters moved East). His father was one “Rabbi Bimstein” in Poland who was also of the Sabbatean faith.
While I’m at it… I might as well mention the child of Marrano ancestry Martinez de Pasqually of Elus Cohen/Martinist fame and the finding of the “Rituals of a Heretical Jewish Sect”, by a relative involved with the Inquisition. Hmmm, wonder where these came from.
Anyway, the “Marrano” (Forced Converts), and later “Donme” (converses to Islam) and “Frankist” (conversos to Catholicism) movements have impacted the development of Kabbalah and relate to the way the Jews were treated.
