"ive heard of that method, i forget which book it is in(one of the thelemic book lol) but it is suggested to craft your own instead of buying one, kinda like crafting your own wand."
I'm not sure, I actually found it on a knife making DIY website. It does work pretty well though.
93 Asraiya,
What I would suggest is a quite simple method of making your own. It does require tools but is fairly easy too!
You should acquire a piece of steel from ether a steel company or sometimes you can find them at Home Depot, and any saw with a metal cutting blade. (preferable a band saw but I used a jigsaw just fine) cut out your blade and piece that fits in the grip (one piece) then fashion a grip out of your choice of wood. Fit the two together with an epoxy made for bonding both metal and wood. and Bam! you got a dagger!!! other wise I found these guys to be helpful....
They do have some quality daggers...
93's
93 Guys,
There are literally thousands of ways to promulgate the Law. The greeting is one of the most blunt and sometimes effective ways but that sometimes leaves one unfulfilled in a sense that the setting is usually not right for an in depth conversation.
I personally have set up a study/discussion group and have fliered for it in the surrounding areas, book stores and occult shops. I also leave cards in the 'magical studies' sections in larger book stores. Then each meeting is started with an explanation of the principals and general outline of Thelema and Crowley.
Other than that the College in my area has a radio station and a friend of mine does a show on it. We are planning a show where we will discuss Thelema and on there I'll mention the group.
Like I said, thousands of ways.
93 All,
Happy Feast day!!!
Light Life Love and Liberty to you all!

"Im sorry but I fail to see the point in animal sacrifice. Maybe someone could explain it to me? If its for added energy in a ritual then breadth training and chi gong would increase that much more. You certainly arent going to elevate your soul doing it. If you need more luck or a new job there are plenty of effective types of magick that dont involve killing an animal. No amount of animal sacrifice will ever make up for a lack of discipline, which is the only thing that pushes anyone forward in any endeavour."
you re right the best sacrifice is that of a male child of perfect innocence and high intelligence if you know what I mean.

"He said various things at various points in his life. The longer he lived, the more he inclined to the view that the HGA is a distinctive separate person."
Jims right on this, toward the end of AC's life he started to rethink the HGA Tiphareth attribution and it shows in Magick Without Tears pgs 281-282 where AC clearly points out that the HGA is a separate being and NOT the 'Higher Self'. He also states somewhere in this book (where exactly I forget) the the Higher Self is attained in Tiphareth and the HGA in Binah.
The HGA=Higher Self idea was a flawed old AEonic idea and AC being essentially an old aeonic soul had bouts with this throughout his career. But we all make mistakes, we are only human.
93 all,
Here's a quick question. Aiwass, would he be considered as an archetype? And if so, in what sense? As an archetype of the HGA, if such a thing would even exist, or as Thelema as a whole? I ask because I am working on a piece that deals with Gods goddesses and Archetypes of Thelema, any ideas on this?

"But one usually makes (and discards or archives) many tools over the course of a career."
This is orthogonal to the discussion, but it's a question that I've had for years: how does one discard or archive a magical tool?"
As far as I understand the nature of the tools, they are just symbols and a means of externalizing an internal force. To move on to a more refined and precise tool would be like changing a motto as your aspirations define themselves better. It really matters not what you do with the old ones at this time because your focus has moved on to the new one. It seems like a sort of transmutation.

"I have always pictured it in my mind as Kether being 'static' after the fashion of a sprial that moves around but remains in a static position. You might say it "moves in a circle
Where Chokmah is like a line, a definitive path with movement in 'space.'"
Well I guess it could be static in the sense that it really has nowhere to go because it is everything that exists but to picture it with any kind of background would affirm that there is something other than Kether... A and not-A which would be a representation of 2Chokmah. AC avoids the temptation to define it by simply stating
""Unity" transcends "consciousness". It is above all division"
and that's that.
93 Jim,
Beautifully explained! I realized 'static' would pertain more to Binah after I posted. But then I started thinking of what the apex of those two principals would be, and I think you nailed it when you said that it just IS.
93 All,
Here's a question I've been thinking of for some time and I cant quite figure it. Chokmah is the Dynamic aspect of Kether, Kether in action if you will, but it seems off to consider kether as a Static state. By my understanding Kether is a constant flow of energy, only, it is pure and undirected, so this would bar it from the static state wouldn't it? But as Chokmah is the Dynamic action of the unlimited energy from the Smooth Point what does that make Kether?

93,
your confusing OTO with the AA student period, about which Nephilim was asking. It has been my experience that the student period of AA is to be no less than three months but the length is not stipulated. As with the Minerval, of which I was for almost a year before moving on, take your time and do the work. The path is drawn out over incarnations and even aeons, there is no rush, and if there is it is all from you. Or from 'Lust of result.'
93 Persephone,
The best advice I had ever heard on this subject was indeed mentioned in the thread Ankh suggested. In that thread Jim wrote:
" Money is rarely the answer or the desired result. It is usually the MEANS to the REAL answer or desired result. Don't focus on the means - focus on the real desired outcome!"

93,
Crowley constantly talks about teaching things to people who show an aptitude for it (this includes, importantly, occultism/ceremonial magick). Although many skills are useful for everyone (basic arithmetic, critical thinking, reading skills) there are many that are only useful for specialists (I learned calculus back in high school and have yet to use it... but it was an interesting mental exercise). I would think Crowley would expose children to all the greats in literature and science and humanities and allow the child to guide their direction...

Welcome to the study of Thelema
'Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law'
'Every man and ever woman is a star'
Each person has their own course or path, point-of-view if you will and some times they don't agree. That's the beauty of Thelema. No one is nessassarily 'wrong' per se it just may be wrong for another.
Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law,
You ask some good questions. I had a tough time with this one too. Here's a excerpt from Frater Achads "The Anatomy of the Body of God" That might help, though I believe your on the right track.
"Man's teachers have been largely responsible for distorting his mental vision, and they must cease from restricting his natural actions and impeding his natural growth, which would be normally proportioned if the Holy Spirit within were allowed to expand in the proper manner. Man's natural tendency is towards health of body and soul under the action of Spirit. Most of the present systems have led him to believe otherwise from his earliest childhood, thus handicapping him from the start.
The child is, in one sense, the best example of the perfect man or woman, and if the child were allowed to develop Intelligence unhampered by false notions from outside, it would grow to be the true example of the God-Man or Man-God in the majority of cases. We have ruined our children before they have had a chance to come to maturity; our well-meaning, though ignorant, parents and childhood teachers have instilled into our subconscious minds most of the "complexes" which in after life we can only eradicate by bitter toil and bloody sweat."

93 KVRB,
Old thread, I know, but lately I've been working on these verses from a different point-of-view with some interesting finds. Here's my notes so far.
"Recent meditations of the first chapter of our most Holy Book, Liber AL vel Legis have yielded some interesting results. I would like to share some ideas/discoveries (even if they only mean anything to me) with you. The verses in question are AL I:24-25.
"I,24: I am Nuit, and my word is six and fifty.
I,25: Divide, add, multiply, and understand."
I will not go into what has already been written about these verses because though I believe they yield some fantastic results I also believe that they are lacking inspiration for me, there must be a further mystery here.
To start we must look at verse 24. It is a declarative statement of who is speaking and what Her 'word' is. Now 'six and fifty' being taken as 56 we can easily conclude that She is referring to Her name 'NV' N=50+V=6; however the next verse lets on that there is a further mystery that is locked within the Name! "Divide, add, multiply, and understand." says the Goddess beckoning Us to unveil her nakedness! So now, how do we begin to unravel this arcanum? By starting at the beginning. We take 56 and do what we have been instructed to do, of which the first step is to divide. To divide is to separate into two or more parts and since two is the first number we can separate anything into we shall use it.
56/2=28 (28 a number of Venus)
Our next step is to add. What shall we add? It has been given to us already!
28+50=78 (78 the number of cards of the ROTA, encompassing all existence)
Next we must multiply by the number that is left untouched.
78x6=468
At first 468 does not seem all that pertinent to our formula but a deeper look will show us we are right on track.
468=
BThNDIB-a princes daughter
NBIVTh-Heights
BNThIV-daughter
ChLLTh-begin
BThINV-house
AHBThNI-love
VThZNH-a harlot
ZNVThH-whoredom
ThBINV-to understand
468/3=156
468/6=78
468/9=52
468/13=36
468/18=26
4+6+8=18= DVGH-a fishhook = N(fish)+ V(hook)= NV = 56
468-418=50 (Nun) which could be viewed as the K&C of the HGA(418) + crossing the abyss and entering Binah(50) is the way to Nuit (468)
and lastly,
468(Nuit) + 309(ShT who is Hadit) = 777
The question still stands, what is Her 'word' that equates to 468? It must surely be as a ray of unimaginable Light illuminating the darkness of our understandings once found. The search goes on."
Right track or no it works for me and has opened some avenues of thought previously un-tread.
