    I often wonder when, for instance, in "Emblems and Mode of Use" an example is used, "smear the Elixir on a gold coin, or ring", wouldn't it leave an undesirable film over a piece of gold jewelry? Would cleaning it off after the operation remove the effect?

      When Crowley died, there were several talismans found in his effects that looked pretty messed up. So yeah, that's certainly possible.

      I guess the lesson is that, in that particular system, having a talisman stay looking good wasn't as important as other things.

      Consider that in VIII° work, some practices have you masturbating on your Enochian tablets. It is no surprise that, in time, these start... attracting things.
