There's a bunch of stuff like that. I think it's sufficiently established that contact with a substance affects the body - there's molecular exchange. Around 1980 I wrote a short piece reflecting on the traditional insistence that a sword (made of steel needs to have a copy hilt. Crowley's explanation (something to the effect that love is the motive) always seemed forced to me. Then I learned that... biochemically the body needs copper in order to use iron efficiently. Bingo!

A lot of the "buzz" people get off of a tool might be static electricity - something with real electrical potential - but I'm not convinced that's the whole story. I think it more likely that materials with high electrical conductivity vs. resistance (chant Ohm) have parallel astral or etheric characteristics. Nonetheless, if there were nothing but a physical effect that boosts a psychological effect, that would be worthwhile.

Consider that we wrap tools in silk. Charge it (CHARGE it!) and then wrap it in silk. Hmm. 😄

On the other hand, beeswax has an electrical conductivity potential about 1/18 that of water (usually under 3k). That's what we use for something intended to convey inertia. (However, my pantacle does have a discernible but subtle buzz to the touch after 30+ years. Good silk, I guess 😄 )

Oops. I see that my formatting above was unclear. I should have put in more linefeeds; then you would have seen:

Physiological gender and practical gender are different things.

Jim, when I hear you saying "usually male", what I really hear is that, generally speaking, the formula of interaction between the aspirant and the HGA has the Angel as positive and the aspirant as negative.

More likely than not we are "receiving" something in any case, and I don't know about any of you, but in the low, sexual parallel of what we call "knowledge and conversation", I have definitely been on the receptive end of the interaction with both men and women...so do whatever you want with that.

Hi, yes, it's Κὸγξ, ὂμπαξ . With a nu it is a misspelling. I am the one who corrected the wikipedia article on Crowley's Konx Om Pax with the original source in Hesychius. Crowley knew this, of course, and gives it the value of 404 in the Greek Qabalah.

In Greek orthography, a gamma before another gamma or the other velar consonants Κ, ξ, and χ, represents the sound /ng/, a characteristic called “ingma.” This is simply a rule of Greek, both ancient and modern, and there are no orthographic exceptions.

Here are some other well-known words with Latin or English cognates which show it –

Ιυγγες - - “Iunges”as in Star Ruby ritual (nominative plural form of Ιυγξ, “Iunx”, whence English “jinx”); never spelled “ιυνγες” or “Ιυνξ”
Σφιγξ - “Sphinx”; never spelled “σφινξ”
Αγγελος – “Angel”; never spelled “ανγελλος”
Ελεγχος – “Elench”; never spelled “ελενχος”
Κογχη – “Conch”; never spelled “κονχη”
Πλαγκτόν – “Plankton”; never spelled “πλανκτόν”
Etc.

I found several sources which say that an affixed He is a directional marker, and it can be used with the prefix b', which then becomes effectively "into" instead of just "in" so perhaps that explains it: b'-pa'ah-ah "into division, into dividedness".

Primarily, ordeals disclose you to yourself. They also test you (which is much the same thing sometimes, and sometimes a different thing).

Jim, I think you bring up a good point. The individuals who don't pursue these endeavors, no matter how meek those endeavors may be, e.g seeking the truth about our own lives and why we are even here, is how many of us got here. I always said to myself, "Why isn't the first thing one thinks is important, is finding their own 'truth' about why they are here?". We are born into a world that we don't understand and into (some of us) Western Culture. Which is spreading even into the far reaches of what we used to consider to be cultures that still placed emphasis on spiritual matters and now they are losing themselves in the mundane Western matters (Dancing with the Stars as a PRIORITY). By Western Culture I'm not referring to Western Spiritual Systems but just depravity which emphasizes ignorance in any way. Even then though, my personal opinion is that if you have internet access and the will to find some truth there really should be no excuse. The question is then, Why are we not all born with the thought process "Why am I here?" and why do so many people accept what they are told, but then complain later on " Man! Religion is bullshit...blah blah". Of course it is (Not Religion per se) but the idea that spiritual matters cannot be pursued in this world now, that you should just take so and so's word for it on the pulpit. What's really terrible about it is that people who are close to me in my life have had many negative experiences in their youth that turned them away from seeking such answers and that to me, is a valid excuse in a sense but worthless none-the-less. If you want the answers you can find them, it just takes work and passion. I believe that at this stage in our evolution we NEED to go find these answers as a race and individually. It's like a house on a foundation that is sinking, the foundation being repaired by finding the answers and experiencing them, so that you obtain the wisdom of yourself FOR YOURSELF.

That wouldn't be too unusual, BTW. Probably a majority of those who have been initiated and dedicated within an actual would do something similar.

Besides, Liber VIII says, "...if it be possible, let this invocation be performed in a temple prepared for the ritual of passing through the Tuat." That's the same thing.

Shame 😞 Oh well.
